ADVANCED LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING PROGRAM

In response to feedback received at the system coordination and sustainability events held last fall, the LTCI has been developing and trialing an advanced long-term care training program. The program supports both Peer Learners (FPs new to practice or wishing to augment LTC skills) to learn about LTC and provide remuneration for their time, as well as later-career and retiring LTC Practice Coaches, who are remunerated for their mentoring time, and for any care transfers of LTC residents to the peer learner.

Are you interested in becoming an LTC Practice Coach? The LTCI is actively recruiting for a pool of coaches to match with peer learners! You will be compensated at the sessional rate for your time and provided an orientation session with practical mentoring tips. Contact our team at victoriasouthisland.LTCI@victoriadivision.ca

RECRUITMENT

The LTCI has been working with physicians and long-term care homes to find replacements for physicians retiring or reducing panel sizes. Are you a physician interested in expanding your long-term care practice? Do you know a physician who would like to learn more about long-term care and the LTCI? Please get in touch with us at victoriasouthisland.LTCI@victoriadivision.ca

DR. ROBIN SAUNDERS AWARDED

Dr. Robin Saunders, LTCI Steering Committee member and Sooke Family Physician, was the recipient of the 2021 Dr. Thomas M. Bailey Memorial Award. Congratulations Dr. Saunders for your excellence in leadership, care, consideration and kindness! Read the announcement here

AFTER-HOURS CALL

The Victoria and Saanich Peninsula after-hours call groups have now been operational for over three years! Please find some friendly reminders below:

  • The after-hours call groups are for urgent concerns, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays;
  • An MRP should not be contacted for any urgent after-hours concerns (unless they have arranged for this to occur due to extenuating circumstances eg. active palliation, complex family issues, etc.).

Consistent use ensures the longevity and efficient functioning of the group. If you are an MRP and receive an urgent fax or call after-hours, please refer the caller back to the after-hours call group in their region.

Find the link for the After-Hours Call poster and the most recent after-hours SBAR on our website here.

Read the recent reminder memo from the LTCI co-chairs here.

MRP NOTIFICATION OF DEATH

The LTCI have partnered with Island Health on the development of a MRP Death Notification Tool, available here. The aim is for this tool to provide MRP’s with the information needed to register a death in a timely manner. Recently this form was distributed for Island wide use, read the memo about its distribution here.

Physicians, did you know you could proactively request bundles of Physician Medical Certification of Death forms? Several members have noted that this contributes to an increasingly efficient process! Request forms from Vital Statistics HLTH.VSStock@gov.bc.ca or (fax) 250.952.9094.

The next LTCI Virtual Learning Series Event is scheduled for January and you're invited!
