Speech therapy coverage helps families “do it a different way”

Benefit coverage available to Saskatchewan health-care workers can help you and your family members prepare for new chapters in your lives.

For one benefit plan member, that meant helping her daughter re-learn some parts of her developing speech. When Olivia was four, her pediatrician suggested she was having trouble pronouncing some sounds. Her mother, Sabrina, wanted to make sure she would be able to start Kindergarten at the same verbal level as the rest of the kids.

To find out more about Olivia’s experience and benefit plans available to health-care workers, please visit 3sHealth.ca.

Speech therapy is just one of a wide variety of paramedical and professional services covered for benefit plan members.

MatSK Connect: A human-centered prenatal for interprofessional excellence

The Maternal and Children’s Provincial Program – Education & Research Department, in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, is the successful receipt of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada Collaborate Safety Grant and Mitacs Business Strategy Internship funding. This support enables the MatSK Connect project, which will co-design standardized provincial perinatal forms and pathways with care providers, system leaders, and patient and family partners across Saskatchewan, advancing toward a future provincial perinatal electronic health record. This work will strengthen prenatal care by improving communication, supporting clinical decision-making, and enhancing interprofessional collaboration in perinatal and neonatal environments.

 Recognition and Appreciation

Honouring a career of care at the Humboldt lab

After more than four decades of dedicated service, Kathy Hilbert is retiring from the Humboldt District Health Complex laboratory. She began her career in 1981 and quickly became a trusted and constant presence, providing expertise and stability as the laboratory evolved through many periods of change. Her technical skill, professionalism, and commitment to patient care were integral to the lab’s day-to-day operations and continued success.

In her later years, Kathy served as a laboratory leader at the Humboldt District Health Complex, where she played an important role in guiding staff, supporting operations, and upholding accreditation standards. Shaun Halford, Interim Manager of Laboratory Medicine, described Kathy as deeply knowledgeable and steady in her leadership, always willing to mentor others and support both staff and operations.

Kathy’s contributions have left a meaningful and lasting impression on the laboratory and her colleagues. We extend our sincere appreciation for her remarkable service and congratulate her on a well-deserved retirement.

Kathy Hilbert was all smiles as she kicked off her retirement the best way possible — with cake.

Kindersley and District facility parking lot ribbon cutting ceremony

The Kindersley community proudly came together to fundraise for much-needed improvements to the hospital and long-term care facility parking lots. This project, a year in the making, was completed successfully in early August 2025. The Rural Municipality of Kindersley extended its commitment to support the Saskatchewan Health Authority in enhancing accessibility and ensuring safer, more welcoming spaces for patients, residents, families, and staff.

Generous contributions from community members, surrounding Hutterite colonies, the Town of Kindersley, and the RM made this project possible. Their support reflects the strength of our region and the shared dedication to improving health-care facilities for everyone.

A grand opening ribbon cutting was held at the Kindersley and District Health Facility this summer. From left: Richard MacDougall, RM of Kindersley Councilor; Ken Johnson, RM of Priaire Dale Councillor; Anika Becker, Clinical Services Manager with SHA; Lionel Story, RM of Kindersley Reeve; Paul Hofer, representative of the surrounding area Hutterite colonies.
