Read more | | DISTRICT AIMS TO LOWER RECYCLING CONTAMINATION IN SQUAMISH | The District of Squamish is taking measures to reduce community recycling contamination through education, tote audits, recycling infrastructure and events. Recycling contamination occurs when material that is not accepted for curbside recycling is placed in the curbside recycling tote. “Effective recycling programs require appropriate tools, knowledge and effort. Launch Survey | | | North Yards Park The District of Squamish is developing a neighbourhood park at the end of No Name Road in Squamish. We want to know how you currently use the space, and what you wish for the space in the future. Your input will be used to develop concept ideas for the park space. Launch Survey | | | COMMUNITY NOTICES AND EVENTS | Adopting the Zero Carbon Step Code for New Homes in Squamish The Zero Carbon Step Code (ZCSC) is a provincial building standard that is part of the BC Building Code. It is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in new Part 3 and Part 9 homes. Squamish is planning to adopt the ZCSC shortly, which will replace the current Low Carbon Density Incentive. Please join us to get more information, discuss these changes and offer your feedback. Contractors and tradespeople are particularly welcome! Learn more | | Pitch-in Week returns April 22-28 The District of Squamish is once again taking part in Pitch-In Week, Canada's largest environmental improvement campaign. Pitch-In Week is a great opportunity for residents, students, or community groups to get together and clean up our community. Sign up individually, or with your friends, household or family! Learn more | Bird nesting season In B.C., birds and their nests are protected under the provincial Wildlife Act and the federal Migratory Birds Convention Act which make it an offence to harm, disturb or destruct nests, eggs or young. In Squamish, the bird nesting period is from late March to late August. All vegetation disturbance should occur outside of this period. If vegetation removal must occur during this period, it should be ensured that no nests are present. Learn more | | Update on the 2024 Re-Use-It Fair Due to Brennan Park Recreation Centre facility upgrades currently underway, the annual Re-Use-It Fair originally planned for 2024, will not take place this year. The District of Squamish will host several events and initiatives to facilitate reuse and support community zero waste efforts. A community-wide garage sale will be encouraged to be held on a date in June to provide an opportunity for residents to keep usable items out of the landfill, and take home some treasures. Start setting aside your gently used appliances, toys, books, clothing, sporting goods, furniture, and other household items, and stay tuned for details! | | Filming and Event Impact Notices: - A work permit has been issued for filming at Brennan Park Recreation Centre from Monday, April 15 to Friday, April 19. Impacts will limited to use of the fields and their adjoining parking lots only. Please obey all signage and personnel during this time. User groups have been notified of field closures.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, we have a class for everyone! No partners required. These classes take place at The 55 Activity Centre. Seniors' Corner Flower Bouquet Workshop, May 8, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. This workshop takes place at Westwinds. Professional florist, Bernadette will lead students in creating their own fresh seasonal flower bouquet to take home. Students must supply their own vase. Registration closes one week prior to workshop to allow for the right numbers of fresh flowers to be pre-ordered.
