| Avalanche Awareness is coming to Vancouver! Presented by the FMCBC and Avalanche Canada. New to the backcountry? Want to up your game? No matter your level of outdoor experience, this must-attend event will boost your awareness of avalanche safety, equipment and resources. It's all happening on Nov. 9th at the North Shore Alliance Church in North Vancouver! - Presentations from Avalanche Canada, North Shore SAR, AdventureSmart and a North Shore snowshoe ambassador & guide

- Prizes (including a pair of Atlas snowshoes, donated by K2)
- Free parking
- Registration not required, but is appreciated so we can estimate attendance
The event is broken into two parts. Attend one or both! - Morning session (advanced): 10:30 am – noon
- Afternoon session (beginner): Doors open at 1:30 pm. Presentations run 2:00 pm – 4 pm (may run slightly longer to accommodate questions)

We're looking for submissions, including cover photos (wintry, please), articles, trip reports, gear reviews, and other backcountry musings, for the Fall/Winter 2019 issue of Cloudburst. The BC Parks Foundation reached its fundraising goal of $3 million, just in time to meet the deadline to protect Princess Louisa Inlet, and has purchased three key properties in the area. Said BCPF CEO Andrew Day: "We are overjoyed to announce the purchase has been finalized. We now move on to designating the land as a park or otherwise protecting it for future generations." Job alert: The BC Parks Foundation is hiring an Administrative Coordinator, to be based out of their downtown Vancouver office. Deadline to apply is October 1st. Are you passionate about supporting children and families to explore and spend time in nature? Are you a strategic and organized leader looking for something new? NatureKids BC is searching for their next Executive Director! Heads up: Reservations open on October 1st for the Berg Lake Trail and the Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit. The results are in from the recent Joffre Lakes Park online survey. BC Parks is developing a recreation strategy for Wells Gray Provincial Park, which will complement the Wells Gray Provincial Park Management Plan. Deadline to submit feedback is October 11, 2019 at 4:00pm. | Thanks to Mike Nash of the Caledonia Ramblers for this month's feature photo. Nash, a regular Cloudburst contributor, recently backpacked the Brazeau Loop in the boundary area of Jasper and Banff National Parks. At 73 and hiking solo, it was Mike's second try, having started out and turned back a month earlier in July. The 81-kilometre Brazeau Loop goes over five high mountain passes and is renowned for its varied scenery, geology, flora and fauna. For these reasons, it is sometimes known as the 'grand tour or Jasper's southern ranges.' Mike took this picture on day 4 of the hike, a few hours after an early morning brush with three grizzly bears: a roaring mama and her two nearly fully grown cubs. In this image, he is descending from Jonas Pass down towards his last camp on the Brazeau River.
