Squamish Becomes Local Partner in Housing Design Catalogue 

Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver – Sunshine Coast – Sea to Sky and District of Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford announced this week that Squamish has become the latest municipality to endorse the Canada Mortage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Housing Design Catalogue as an official Local Partner.

The District is supporting three Housing Design Catalogue designs: BC Duplex, BC Fourplex 01, and BC Fourplex 02. Although a Building Permit is still required, the standardized designs receive a streamlined review.

2027 Permissive Tax Exemption Applications

The District of Squamish is now accepting applications for Permissive Tax Exemptions. Section 224 of the Community Charter and the requirements of the District of Squamish Permissive Tax Exemption policy apply.

If your organization can demonstrate eligibility, you are welcome to apply for an exemption. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2026, for exemptions beginning for the 2027 taxation year.

Recycling Pop-Up - July 4

The District, in collaboration with GFL Squamish, is offering a FREE recycling pop-up July 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stan Clarke Park.

Residents can drop off the following materials that are not accepted in your curbside recycling tote:

  • Glass
  • Electronics
  • Flexible Plastics
  • Styrofoam
  • Batteries
  • Vapes

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions about recycling and help sort materials. Don’t forget to participate in the recycling quiz for a chance to win cool prizes!

Free Retrofit Assist
Home Air Sealing Program

Want to improve your home’s energy efficiency and costs?

The District of Squamish has partnered with the Community Energy Association, Youth Climate Corps BC, and Sitka Home Energy Solutions to offer FREE home energy assessments and basic air sealing services to households across Squamish.

Here are the details:

  • A Certified Energy Advisor will test to find drafts in your home.
  • You’ll get 3–4 hours of targeted air sealing of windows, doors, vents, outlets, and more.
  • Get personalized coaching and a written report.
  • All absolutely FREE.

2026 Chipper Dates

FireSmart is hosting Chipper Days for the 2026 wildfire season. Check below to find the scheduled date for your neighbourhood:

Dentville: July 20
Brackendale: July 21-24
Downtown/SEAandSKY: September 21-22

Squamish Landfill
Pilot Reusable Wood Program

The Squamish Landfill continues to offer its  pilot program that allows residents to come to the landfill and take wood for FREE from the wood bays. The program aims to help save wood chipping costs and provide the opportunity to give wood that has been brought to the landfill a second life.

Here's how it works:

  • Get a Wood Reuse Card from the scale operator.

  • Take as much wood as you want for free! 

  • Exit the landfill… enjoy your free wood!

Traffic Impact Notice:
Depot Road

Please be advised that single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect June 22 to August 14 on the north side of Depot Road from Highway 99 to Government Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The work is part of Depot Road Active Transportation Upgrades and construction of a new protected, multi-use pathway that will connect to the existing bike lanes on Government Road. This project will increase safety for all users at intersections by improving lighting, installing rectangular rapid flashing beacons and enhancing accessibility.

Impacts:

  • Single-lane alternating traffic
  • Noise
  • Dust

Stage 1 Water Restrictions in Effect

Water conservation helps to avoid or delay costly water system upgrades.

Stage 1 limits sprinkler use for lawns, trees, flowers, and shrubs to two days per week:

Even addresses: Wednesday & Saturday

Odd addresses: Thursday & Sunday

Lawn watering with a sprinkler is allowed from 4 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. on those days. Hand watering with a container or device with an automatic shut-off is allowed on any day, and at any time.

Infrastructure Upgrades

  • Wastewater System Upgrades continue in Dentville.
  • Annual Watermain Upgrades continue in Brackendale.
  • Phased construction on Squamish River Dike at Harris and Dryden Pump Stations and Central Lift Station through to November.

 

  • Depot Road Active Transportation Upgrgades continue. The project will provide safe, comfortable and accessible pedestrian and cyclist access, and improve lighting and accessibility for all users. Residents should expect increased noise level and single-lane alternating traffic during construction hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday).

Brennan Park Recreation Centre Celebration​​​​​​​
July 16, 3 to 5 p.m. at Brennan Park Recreation Centre

Join us between 3 and 5 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the retrofit project. Green and Accessibility Retrofit Project (Project One) and enjoy facility tours, games, trivia, cake, giveaways and a free public swim. Plus, learn about the behind-the-scenes work to make our recreation centre more energy efficient and accessible.
