The District of Squamish is set to begin a phase of decision-making around municipal office replacement, future Brennan Park replacements and a new Civic Block for Squamish.

“We are working on the bigger-picture future of our municipal facilities and taking the time to do our due diligence, to engage in conversations with School District No. 48 and all stakeholders at the table,” says District of Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford. “Most importantly, we want to maximize potential opportunities and ensure we are working through our list of priorities in a way that is responsible, strategic and in the best interest of our community.”

BEARSMART TIP OF THE WEEK

Garbage attracts wildlife. As a BearSmart community, we need to
manage our waste responsibly to avoid attracting bears and other wild animals.

Please consider the following guidelines to keep wildlife wild:

  • If you can, keep your totes behind closed doors in your garage, basement, or storage area.
  • Never put garbage in your recycling tote.
  • Rinse all the containers and materials in your recycling tote.
  • Only unlock your totes at 7:45 a.m. on your service day and pull totes back to your storage area as soon as possible. Keep totes locked at all other times.

NOTICE OF COYOTE ACTIVITY: GARIBALDI ESTATES

The Conservation Officer Service has received multiple reports of a coyote family frequenting Pat Goode Park in Garibaldi Estates, raising concern for public safety.

If you are a pet owner, please ensure they are kept indoors at night and keep dogs on leash when in the area. Small dogs and cats can be at risk of a coyote attack. If you keep backyard hens, please ensure they are kept enclosed by an electric fence. Chickens, eggs and chicken feed will attract wildlife into your yard. If you are a parent, please talk to your children and teach them what to do if they encounter a coyote.

Please report any aggressive coyote behaviour to the 24-hour Conservation Officer RAPP line at 1.877.952.7277.
