Welcome to these new administrators on the board of Aviateurs.Québec

Michel Chartier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aviateurs.Québec, is proud to welcome new directors who, through their background and their experience, will be able to contribute to the advancement of the mission of Aviateurs.Québec.

Sophie Dufresne, after a brief absence for professional reasons, returns to us as administrator. She is however stepping down as Vice-President, Member Services.

Nathalie Fortin has accepted the position of Vice-President, Member Services, taking over from Sophie Dufresne. Nathalie is also from the world of flight instruction and with her experience, she will be able to continue and build on the growth that Sophie had generated.

Marc-André Théorêt also returns to us after an absence of a few years. Marc-André, an eternal traveler, well known to readers of Aviation magazine, will help us all demystify the planning of long trips abroad.

To get to know them better, here is their short biography.

Sophie Dufresne, Administrator

Sophie is a class 1 flight instructor and has been involved in the aviation community for many years. Through the articles she writes or the conferences she leads, Sophie is committed to promoting aviation safety. She brings us her expertise as an international manager and of course her experience as a pilot and trainer. She dreams of inclusive aviation with all air enthusiasts having an association to represent them: from commuters to hot air balloons, including helicopters, gliders and gyrocopters!

Nathalie Fortin, Vice-President Member Services

Nathalie has been passionate about aviation for over 10 years. Her journey began in 2012, and she has spent the last 4 years as a full-time flight instructor. She recently accepted a management position at Sélect Aviation College in Gatineau where she will continue to exercise her passion for part-time airplane instruction.

Over the years, Nathalie has been involved in various ways in the world of small aviation. She organized 4 editions of the aerial meeting at the Maniwaki airport, sat on the board of directors of AGAG (Association des Gens de l'Aviation de Gatineau), and volunteered at several aerial events.

Nathalie has accumulated more than 2,300 flight hours, and owned a Cessna 150 for several years, which allowed her to travel all over Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, and the United States. Hours flown on more than a dozen aircraft types: from ultralights, to tailwheel aircraft, to fleet aircraft, and all the way to the Grand Caravan. Nathalie loves bush flying and visiting trails closer to nature for camping. She has also shared several of her adventures on her blog, and will contribute among other things by writing to the association.

Flying is a job for Nathalie, but it's also a pleasure, she enjoys socializing in the aviation community and hopes to continue to share her passion by contributing her experience acquired so far within Aviateurs Québec.

He is pleased to join the Board of Directors as VP Member Services and help recruit more aviation enthusiasts of all ages.

Marc-André Théorêt, administrator

My interest and passion for aviation dates back to my youngest age. Already, around the age of 5, I was assembling scale models of fighter planes and one day dreamed of being a pilot and even… an astronaut! I finally got my wings in 1984 in Mascouche and then I got my night flight and IFR ratings. I have been flying a Cirrus SR22 since 2009 with which I have visited a multitude of places in America. I have been a career notary for almost 40 years and I have also been a columnist for Aviation Magazine since 2015 and I like to encourage pilots to get out of their comfort zone and reach unique and noteworthy destinations. In 2015, I obtained from the Société des Aéroports de Montréal the right to install hangars intended for general aviation at Mirabel airport and am still actively working to make this place accessible to the Quebec pilot community. I am always available to provide those interested with advice on planning long-haul flights, in Canada, the United States and the Bahamas.

NAV CANADA: NAVAID Modernization Program: PHASE 9

NAV CANADA, the nation's civil air navigation system operator, conducted an aeronautical study to assess the need for non-directional beacons (NDB) and very high frequency omnidirectional ranges (VOR).

The study concluded that given the comprehensive radar surveillance coverage and capabilities of aircraft equipped for area navigation (RNAV) using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), many navigation (NAVAID) are no longer needed and should be decommissioned.

NAV CANADA announces in Aeronautical Information Circular 34/22, the implementation of phase 9. For the Quebec region, this phase has seen on 29th December, the decommissioning of the following NAVAIDs:

For a complete list of NAVAIDs affected by Phase 9, please see Aeronautical Information Circular 34/22 by clicking HERE
