As we approach the close of another year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing support of PBSC and our shared vision of a more equitable justice system in Canada.

We are proud to see our national network grow, with an increasing number of law students, lawyers, notaries, and community organizations coming together to advance our mission. Your collective energy and commitment to pro bono work continue to inspire us. A special thank you goes to our funders—both longstanding and new—whose generosity allows us to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve and create lasting, positive change. We’re excited for what lies ahead in 2025 and look forward to further collaboration with all of you.

One of the highlights of this year was the opportunity to co-host Chief Justice Richard Wagner alongside our incredible partner, Kensington-Bellwoods Community Legal Services (KBCLS), in November. As a longstanding champion of pro bono work and the namesake of PBSC’s prestigious award program recognizing exceptional student volunteers, we were honoured that the Chief Justice visited KBCLS to observe our students in action and participate in a memorable fireside chat. This year, volunteers placed with KBCLS have contributed to several impactful initiatives, including supporting client intake, assisting with ODSP appeals, preparing clients for Landlord and Tenant Board hearings, and researching recent changes in immigration law affecting international students.

Alors qu’une autre année tire à sa fin, je tiens à prendre un moment pour vous remercier du fond du cœur pour votre soutien continu envers EPBC et notre vision commune d’un système de justice plus équitable au Canada.

C’est une grande fierté de voir notre réseau national s’agrandir et de voir s’y greffer un nombre grandissant d’étudiant·es en droit, d’avocat·es, de notaires et d’organismes communautaires qui s’unissent pour faire avancer notre mission. Votre énergie collective et votre dévouement envers le travail pro bono continuent de nous inspirer. Un merci tout particulier à nos partenaires financiers — anciens et nouveaux —, dont la générosité nous permet de répondre aux besoins en constante évolution des communautés que nous servons et d’engendrer des changements positifs durables. Nous avons hâte de voir ce qui nous attend en 2025 et de poursuivre notre collaboration avec chacun et chacune d’entre vous.

L’un des points forts cette année a été l’occasion d’accueillir le juge en chef Richard Wagner, en collaboration avec notre formidable partenaire, Kensington-Bellwoods Community Legal Services (KBCLS), au mois de novembre. Fervent défenseur du travail pro bono en l’honneur de qui le prestigieux programme de prix d’EPBC honorant les étudiant·es d’exception a été nommé, le juge en chef Wagner a rendu visite à KBCLS pour observer nos étudiant·es en action et participer à une causerie mémorable. Cette année, les bénévoles jumelés avec KBCLS ont participé à plusieurs initiatives importantes, notamment accueillir les clients, aider les clients à contester les refus de POSPH, préparer les clients aux audiences de la CLI, et effectuer des recherches sur les derniers changements en droit de l’immigration ayant une incidence sur les étudiant·es internationaux.
