VOLUME 15 No. 17 | NOVEMBER 17, 2025

New APTS executive committee

At its 12th Convention, the APTS elected its executive committee for the next term. Robert Comeau is beginning his third term as president, backed by a strong and committed team: Émilie Charbonneau (1st vice-president), Isabelle Mantha, Christine Prégent, Steve Garceau and Carl Verreault (vice-presidents), Pascale Leclair-Gingras (secretary) and Sébastien Pitre (treasurer). Together, they are committed to defending an accessible system that delivers high-quality care in the face of the threats of centralization, budget cuts and privatization.

Home care petition

The government is currently meeting a mere 10% of the real needs in home care and is considering requiring financial contributions from Quebecers. It’s time to say NO to these setbacks and stand up for accessible, locally available services that meet people’s real needs. Launched by APTS members at the Pointe-Saint-Charles Community Clinic, a petition calling for universal, free access to home care will be presented to the National Assembly. Let’s sign it!

Your stories

As part of the campaign Facing the reality of old age: what if we dared to do it?, APTS members Anika Doire and Martine Gaucher share their experience in residential facilities for seniors. They offer candid accounts of daily challenges: residents being uprooted, cumbersome administrative processes, a lack of resources… all of which result from the underfunding and growing privatization of the public system.

Follow-up  abolition of the graduate medical laboratory technician job title

On April 25, we told you about the health and social services ministry’s (MSSS) plan to abolish the graduate medical laboratory technician job title. Unions had until July 18 to present their arguments about the plan, which we did. Months later, there’s still no final decision. We recently requested a follow-up meeting with the MSSS and Santé Québec, but they’re currently unavailable. As you may recall, their initial plan was to share their decision with us in mid-September.

The arguments we presented in the consultations seem have to struck a chord!

Media recognition that's more than deserved

You may remember our news item from the last Fil@pts about A well-earned victory for a whistleblower. The story has since been covered by the media. Let’s hope that this will make the message impossible to ignore, and employers will now respect people who denounce unacceptable situations!
