NOTICE OF DISPOSITION

The District of Squamish is pleased to announce the sale of the property located at 42000 Loggers Lane to Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) for a purchase price of $17,490,000.

The sale of District Assets is an important funding source for the District's facility construction projects as outlined in the Real Estate and Facilities Master Plan and 2024-2028 Financial Plan, including Public Works and Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

VCH is acquiring the property to support the future delivery of healthcare services. There are no confirmed plans yet for the redevelopment of the property and VCH will share information regarding any future changes to the property, as appropriate.

DISTRICT EXPLORING OPTIONS FOR NEW PUBLIC RECYCLE DEPOT

The District of Squamish is working to identify a new location for the public Recycle Depot after receiving notice from GFL that the Queens Way depot will close in May. District staff will present a report to Council in the coming weeks to provide options for the continuance of this service and a recommended path forward.

The new solution will strive to meet goals of accessibility, convenience, and safety for residents and visitors. More information will be shared as this project progresses.

Exciting things are coming to Brennan Park Recreation Centre!

The community is invited to drop by for an Information Night on Thursday, February 1 between 4 and 8 p.m. where we will have details on the improvements set to begin in the coming months, as well as a look ahead at our plans for improving the Brennan Park you love!

Stop by for snacks, warm beverages, and an opportunity to talk directly to the project team.

Established in 2021, the Squamish Community Housing Society (SCHS) is a non-profit society created in partnership with the District of Squamish to increase housing solutions across the spectrum of housing needs in Squamish. The Society collaborates with the District, local non-profit housing and social service agencies, the Squamish Nation, other orders of government, and the community at large to deliver housing and housing-related services to our community. Avalanche Awareness Days with BC Parks

Avalanche Awareness Days provide an opportunity to learn more about the winter environment and are a way to build awareness about backcountry safety. Local organizations host avalanche awareness activities in their area. Vehicle chains are mandatory for the upper section of Garibaldi Park Road. All ages and abilities are welcome—no dogs are allowed in Garibaldi Park.

When: January 20 and 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Red Heather Shelter, Garibaldi Park.

Renew your dog licence today and save!

Get your dog’s licence before January 31 to qualify for the discounted rate. All dogs must be registered within 30 days of moving to Squamish and all dogs over eight weeks must be licensed.

To pay online, please use the account number located on your renewal notice. If you have not yet received your notice, please contact Animal Control at 604.815.6866 for your account number.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

Requests for a public meeting must be made within the first 21 calendar days of a project’s launch in the Development Review. If a combination of 10 separate website-based, emailed or written requests are received by the District, then the applicant will be required to hold a Public Information Meeting regarding their proposed development.

LATEST INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

  • University Reservoirs 2 & 3 - Ongoing construction.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plan Expansion and Improvements – Construction is underway through summer 2025 on a new secondary clarifier and concentric bioreactor.
  • Queens Way Lift Station Manhole – Construction continues to replace the inlet manhole and reline the wet-well. Please follow traffic control measures.
  • Water Meter Installations – Water meters are being installed at Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and multi-family residential properties in Squamish. A rate study will be undertaken with public input to update the way these properties are billed for water consumption. This work will take place through February at approximately 50 properties. Affected properties will be notified directly and installation times can be booked at the property owner’s convenience.

Indoor Soccer - Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School

Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Come join us for Indoor Soccer at Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School. This is a relaxed drop in environment available to all genders and all levels of experience. Registration required.

Sensory Friendly Swim

January 27, 5:15-6:45 p.m.

An all-inclusive leisure swim time for those who may have sensory processing challenges or are simply looking for a quieter swim. Music and all water features will be turned off and not available for the duration of the swim time. Everyone is welcome!

Flower Bouquet Workshop

February 8, 12:30-2 p.m.

Professional florist Bernadette will lead students in creating their own fresh seasonal flower bouquet to take home. Students must supply their own vase. Registration closes one week prior to workshop to allow for the right number of fresh flowers to be ordered. Registration only.
