Guest Speaker
Laura Henneberry

PreQuilt is a family business made up of Gar Liu, a developer, and Laura Henneberry, a quilter. They’ve teamed up to create an online software application that helps quilters create, plan, and visualize their own quilts in fun and surprising ways.

PreQuilt comes equipped with multiple grid layouts, solid fabric swatches from all the major manufacturers (like Kona and Free Spirit), preloaded common blocks, a printed fabric swatch importer, and the ability to custom build your own quilt blocks. And coming soon — fabric requirements!

In this demo, Laura will talk about some examples for how you can use PreQuilt in your quilting practice. She believes PreQuilt is one of the best ways to preview your quilt before cutting into your fabrics, and to get excited about get started. Their motto: PreQuilt twice, cut once!

Who doesn’t love a good modern-fashioned swap?! Here’s your opportunity to get in on one. We’re gearing up for the December meeting and organizing a modern pouch swap, read on for the details…

Design, size, and fabric is up to you, please make it modern. Since it’s holiday time, we thought it’d be nice to include a little bonus—a small sewing notion, valued at no more than $10, such as a package of needles, a spool of thread or a stitch ripper. If you don’t want to buy anything—that’s totally fine—make a mug rug out of your scraps and pop that into the pouch. We’ll randomly swap the pouches ensuring every participant receives a pouch made by another member. Gift wrapping the pouch is optional.

We’ll have VMQG modern pouch swap labels available for those who are participating in the swap, you can pick them up at our October or November meeting, or make your own label. Details in the sign-up form.

Don’t wait,  sign up here  (shortest form ever!)

October Block Lotto—Little Bat

The Little Bat block by Cotton and Joy is our Halloween theme block for October. This block uses colour value for contrast in the bat’s body as shown in the top left, green bat block. We aren’t prescribing any particular colour scheme in hopes of creating a fun collection. So go a bit batty and make a few bat blocks this month!

The finished block size is 10.5" x 10.5"

Sewing Chair Ergonomics

Do you ever experience a pain in the neck from sewing? (not the kind of pain you get when you cut your fabric wrong.) It could be that your set-up needs adjusting.

Healthy Quilting  posted a helpful article that outlines why sewing chair ergonomics is important and how you can
how to adjust your seating position for maximum health benefits.

The article also include links to cutting table height and ironing board height. #lesspainmoregain

If you have a tip, please email it to us, we’ll share it and give you a shout out!
