Two bear attacks in Squamish Estuary prompt immediate closure

Trail network closed until further notice to give space to bears and ensure public safety

The Squamish Estuary trail network (Wildlife Management Area) has been closed following two separate surprise attacks involving individuals and a sow with a cub. Both incidents occurred on the morning of Thursday, November 3.

COS officers are investigating the situation. District of Squamish crews and RCMP members have worked to close the estuary and keep public out.

Barricades and signage have been placed at all entrances to keep the public from entering. The public is asked to respect the closure for their own safety. The closure will be in place until further notice.
