Program starts: March 20th, 2023 More Info | Richard is a 52-year-old male who had a successful bricklaying career and was in various roles in skilled labour. Things changed when Richard was involved in an accident in 2016 where he sustained a spinal cord injury and had shingles in the eye, and started to experience issues with substance abuse, mental health and physical health. He could no longer work in his previous career due to limitations to his physical capacity. Mental health-related challenges also significantly impacted Richard’s ability to commit to work. Richard started to receive disability benefits six years ago while in active treatment for the past 18 months. Despite the challenges along his recovery journey, Richard knew he had to find something new, a #newcareer, to #restart, build a better life, and eventually get off disability. After connecting with personal counselling services to improve his employment readiness. He also worked closely with Vocational Counselor and Employment Facilitators to polish and improve job search-related skills such as resume writing and interview skills. With great effort, Richard successfully secured a full-time position last August. He is starting his new career as a Steward with the #FairmontHotel. He was very excited and happy about the working environment, colleagues and employee benefits. He also has a great plan for attending his treatment appointments while working. He is very proud of his achievement and has settled in nicely in his new chapter of life. We are honoured to have supported and helped Richard thrive in his success story. -Richard's Story | | | | |
