Brown background with text reading "Quakers in Canada: News from around Canadian Yearly Meeting." Most of the text is yellow, but the Q is pale green.

Dear Friends,

As many PubCom members shared in our last online meeting, the world feels extra heavy right now. It feels strange to sit down to write a newsletter right after the news of yet more graves found at yet another residential school (as someone on my Twitter feed said, "Never surprised. Always horrified."). I hope Quaker faith can offer healing, truth speaking, and deep transformational discernment as we work to make the lands we currently call Canada safe for all children. If you're looking for ideas of where to get started or go deeper, consult CFSC's resources and blog, and consider making a donation to the Indian Residential School Survivors Network.

Thank you for reading Canadian Yearly Meeting's monthly electronic newsletter—we're glad to have you! If you know others who might like to receive this, please feel free to forward this message so that other friends can subscribe at the link below. Your help in connecting Friends across the country is deeply appreciated!

If you'd like to contribute to the newsletter, email newsletter@quaker.ca by the 15th of the month. We may not be able to fit all contributions in, but we'll try!

Canadian Council of Churches

All members of the Canadian Council of Churches, of which CYM is a founding member, were invited to participate in a meeting last week with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Federal cabinet ministers on “Preparing for a New Normal: A Vision for a Just and Caring Canada – The Prime Minister of Canada in conversation with The Canadian Council of Churches," and to submit a question that could be asked during the meeting. The clerks of CYM -- Marilyn Manzer and Beverly Shepherd -- and the CYM representative to the Governing Board -- Rosemary Meier -- worked on a question for the PM, and it was chosen as one to be asked during the meeting. All three attended, and Marilyn posed the question.
