Mental Health Under Occupation: Palestinian Psychiatrist Dr. Samah Jabr Speaks at UBC Webinar

In March 2024, UBC Middle East Studies hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Samah Jabr, a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and writer based in Jerusalem. “It is vital to provide platforms for Palestinian scholars and communities to speak and be heard,” says event organizer Dr. Pheroze Unwalla (UBC History, Chair of the Middle East Studies Program). “To give them a chance to share with the world their knowledge and experiences with Israeli settler colonialism and genocide."

When History Speaks Back: UBC History Students Contribute to Vancouver’s Local Oral History

Dr. Anne Murphy's new undergraduate course HIST 400: The Practice of Oral History gives students the expansive opportunity to design and conduct oral history interviews, and to engage with and contribute to local Vancouver history.
