Drop-in Chat with the Mayor

Drop-in to chat with Mayor Armand Hurford on Monday, November 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Municipal Hall (Council Chambers). This conversation will focus on the 10-Year Financial Plan and how it delivers services and programs to support Squamish today and into the future.

The Financial Plan impacts us all, every day. Each time you turn on a tap, visit a District park, or walk down a street, you are seeing the budget at work.

Does the Draft Financial Plan align with your community priorities? What have we missed? Visit letstalksquamish.ca/budget-2026 to learn more about the budget, ask a question, and follow along as important decisions are being made. All are welcome!

RSVP is encouraged to communications@squamish.ca.

10-Year Financial Plan Available Online for Public Review

Given the many competing priorities for the municipal budget, we invite you to explore what is proposed and provide your input. This will assist Council as upcoming financial decisions are made.

Budget discussions for the 2026-35 Financial Plan are as follows:

  • Nov 25 - Council will discuss Special Operating Projects and the Capital Plan.
  • Dec 2 – Council will review Utility Fees and Charges for Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste Utilities.
  • Dec 9 – Council will review all aspects of the budget prior to the public info night.
  • Dec 10 – The public is invited to our annual Budget Information Night from 6-8 p.m. This year’s event will be held at the Howe Sound Inn, and will include a facilitated discussion with Council and the public.

Weigh in and tell us what you would prioritize, and what you would de-prioritize. Municipal budgets must be balanced and can’t run a deficit. Increases to one area of the budget must therefore be balanced with either new revenue streams, or decreased spending in another area.

Visit letstalksquamish.ca/budget-2026 to explore our online budget tool, find event dates and Council links, and ways to provide input.

Transgender Awareness Week

Transgender Awareness Week, held annually from November 13-19, celebrates the growth and resiliency of transgender, non-binary and two-spirited individuals.

A transgender flag raising ceremony was held at Municipal Hall with remarks from District of Squamish Council and Pride Squamish. The flag will remain in place through November 20, Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to honour the memories of those whose lives were lost as a result of transgender violence.

The District of Squamish is committed to building an inclusive community in which all Squamish citizens feel valued, seen and heard. Comments on this post have been intentionally turned off.

Be Bright at Night

As the rainy season sets in and the days get shorter, it's time to remember to Be Bright at Night.

As the day darkens, be sure to wear bright clothing and reflective gear when out on dark or dimly lit roads.

→ Pedestrians, wear light-colored or reflective clothing, and reflective vests are also effective.
→ Cyclists should mount lights on the front and back of their bikes.
→ On evening walks, equip your pets with lights and reflective accessories.

We hope these tips help make our community safer in the evenings!
