Join us to walk through the collaborative process, creation, and learnings around: Balancing the Narrative: Communications Guidelines for Indigenous-led Conservation, which offers anti-oppressive practices and approaches for communicating about Indigenous-led conservation within the Canadian context, to support co-developing communications with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis partners in respectful, reciprocal, and responsible ways. These guidelines attempt to shed light on the enduring impacts of colonialism. They also aim to encourage relationship-building based on reconciliation, trust, respect, equity, open dialogue, integrity, and mutual accountability.

Upcoming Talk | Indigenous Legal Principles and Values | Multi-Jurisdictional and Transboundary Freshwater Governance with Aimée Craft

On April 3 the Centre for Law and the Environment at the law school hosting Aimée Craft for a research talk on Indigenous-led water governance. The talk will explore how Indigenous legal principles and values can be used to inform coordinated multi-jurisdictional and trans-boundary freshwater governance. Craft will also discuss how Canada' s new approach to water governance, which aims to redefine Canada's water future, is an opportunity to engage with Indigenous science, knowledge, laws, values, principles, and process in order to help ensure sustainability

Applications open for Elizabeth Henry Scholarship for Communities and Environmental Health

This scholarship supports graduate students working on research projects in partnership with one or more Indigenous and/or non-Indigenous British Columbia communities that are addressing air quality, environmental health issues and/or promoting environmental sustainability through cooperative initiatives.

A scholarship of $4,000 is offered in 2024, with the possibility of a second, smaller scholarship as funds allow.

Invitation to join the Organizing Committee for Water & Environment Student Talks Conference (WEST-Con) 2024

WEST-Con is an interdisciplinary conference organized by students for students working within the fields of water and environment. In the past two years, WEST-Con was held in a virtual/hybrid format to facilitate student participation nationally and internationally. This format has seen over 300 participants from 16 countries, creating a global community among student researchers.

WEST- Con invites students from all faculties to join the multi-disciplinary Organizing Committee for WEST-Con 2024. Subcommittees include: Finance, Communications, Publicity, Logistics, and Content. A brief overview of the roles and responsibilities for each subcommittee can be found in the linked form shared below.
