Focus on the Spiral Turn

The London Branch is sponsoring a Zoom instructor training session. The instructor session is open to all CTCA members.

  • The plan is to focus on how the Spiral Turn is a key feature of Mr. Moy’s Tai Chi
    • What is the spiral?
    • Why is the spiral unique to Mr. Moy’s Tai Chi?
    • Relate the spiral to the Five External Harmonies
    • Common issues:
      • Popping Up
      • Changing the angle on stepping
    • Group Practice:
      • Stork Spreads Wings
      • Repulse Monkey
      • Brush Knee
      • Strum the Pei Pa
  • Instructing the Spiral Turn in Tai Chi: Introduction to Tai Chi, Foundations and Continuing
    • How to demonstrate the spiral turn without talking about the spine
    • Importance of balance, angle and direction
    • Understanding the rising and falling in the set and incorporating the turn
    • Using the spiral to open the physiology / stretching
  • Bring your questions / concerns for discussion.  You can also submit questions or topics for discussion prior to the session (workshop@LondonTaiChi.ca)

  • Please do not distribute the Zoom invitation. Members can submit a request to attend the workshop to: workshop@LondonTaiChi.ca please include your name and location in the CTCA where you instruct classes (assistants and those interested in instructing in the future are welcome to attend).
  • There is no registration form but a request email is required so that a Zoom invite can be sent out
