Replacing Hydro Poles

BC Hydro will be replacing poles on the south side of Westwood Lake February 7-11 between 8 am and 5 pm. Heavy equipment and helicopters will be used to complete this work. Trail users can expect intermittent trail closures of up to 20 minutes for the duration of the work. For crew and public safety, please follow the direction of flaggers. BC Hydro would like to thank you for your understanding while they complete this important work.

Winter Driving Continues

Winter is not done with us yet! This is a friendly reminder to be prepared for winter weather. Even without snow, freezing temperatures can bring icy conditions. Make sure your vehicle has good winter tires, you are practicing defensive and cautious driving and pay extra attention for pedestrians.

SNOW AND ICE CONTROL

Scoop the Poop

Scooping your dog's poop isn't just a courtesy for those walking behind you; it is also the healthy and environmentally sound thing to do and it's the law. Just one day's waste from one dog can contain 7.8 million fecal coliform bacteria. With over 8,000 licensed dogs in Nanaimo it's pretty clear dealing with dog doo is a big deal.

  • Your health - leaving pet waste on the ground poses health risks to humans.
  • Your water - pet waste carries disease causing organisms such as E.coli, giardia and salmonella, which can make water unsafe for drinking or swimming.
  • Your community - swimming beaches and shellfish beds can be shut down due to bacterial contamination created by pet waste.
