Square Bellevue: Léo-Major Street to honour veterans

The main street within the Square Bellevue project will be named rue Léo-Major, in tribute to a Quebec hero whose courage left a lasting mark on history. A soldier in the Régiment de la Chaudière during the Second World War, Léo Major is remembered for his extraordinary bravery in single-handedly liberating the city of Zwolle in the Netherlands.

Located along boulevard des Anciens-Combattants, near Sainte-Anne Hospital, Square Bellevue stands in a place rich with memory and military history. The hospital welcomed numerous veterans from the end of the First World War in 1917 through to the post-Korean War era in 1953.

By naming this street after Léo Major, the Ville de Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is honouring not only an exceptional individual, but all those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. This meaningful gesture pays tribute to their sacrifice, dedication, and bravery - anchoring their legacy in the heart of our community.

Submersible Pump Connection Inspections: A critical issue for infrastructure resilience

Following the heavy rainfall on August 9, 2024, the Ville de Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue hired Roland Bourbonnais Ltée to inspect submersible pump (sump pump) connections, foundation drains, and roof gutter drainage systems.

These inspections are essential to ensure that, among other things, sump pumps are properly connected and not discharging into the sanitary sewer system, in accordance with municipal regulations.

Residents in the North sector had until Friday, March 28, 2025, to schedule their inspection with Roland Bourbonnais Plumbing and Heating. This inspection is mandatory for all North sector residents—even those who do not have a sump pump.

If you have not yet booked your appointment, please contact Ms. Gabrielle Belile at 514-453-3578 as soon as possible.

In light of increasing climate challenges, the Ville de Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is committed to proactive action to strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure and reduce the impact of extreme weather on its residents.

A city in transformation: Shoreline stabilization at Kelso Park and a new pavilion at Lalonde Park

The shoreline stabilization work at Kelso Park and its adjacent promenade, which began in fall 2024, is nearly complete. This $13.4 million project has allowed the renovation and adaptation of retaining walls to meet the challenges of climate change. It was funded by Quebec’s Flood Resilience and Adaptation Program (PRAFI).

But that’s not all! Construction of a brand-new pavilion at Lalonde Park will begin in spring 2025. With a total value of around $1.5 million, this project reflects the Municipal Council’s vision to give citizens greater access to the waterfront. The pavilion and park redesign will enable a wide range of local and tourist activities, including hosting the vibrant Sainte-Anne Market.

These projects are concrete examples of the Ville de Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue’s commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing climate resilience, and creating modern living spaces for all.
