Space Centre: Roving on the Moon

Tuesday, July 16 | 2:00-3:30 pm | Ages 7-12

Registration required - still some spots left!

Join H.R. MacMillan Space Centre experts to learn about the Moon’s unique environment. Participants will launch their own lunar mission and create challenges using Ozobot coding robots. This hands-on STEM based activity will introduce participants to principles of robotics and coding.

Ages 7-12 – Drop off your child for this 1.5 hour event. Please register all children attending.

Old General Store 100th Birthday Celebration & Picnic

Saturday, August 10, 2024 | 12-3 pm

Constructed in 1924 for the Union Steamship Company, and now the home of the Bowen Library, our largest and most iconic heritage building is 100 years old this year. Join us in celebrating this beautiful building and those who saved it from demolition in 1984.

Saturday August 10th from 12pm to 3pm we invite you to bring a picnic to the Library lawn and enjoy music, displays, art, games, activities, a giant birthday cake and a community photo. You are encouraged to dress in 1920’s attire, and to bring your own picnic or order a grab and go lunch from local food vendors (more info to come).

Schedule of events:

  • 12:00–1:00 pm Picnic on the lawns
  • 12:30–1:30 pm Games
  • 1:30–2:00 pm Birthday cake and speeches
  • 2:00 pm Community photo

Butterfly Story Walk

Drop by the library next week to stroll around the gardens and enjoy an interactive picture book!

This story walk follows Señorita Mariposa, written by Mister G, and illustrated by Marcos Almada Rivero.

Follow along with the song! Listen to Mister G's album Choco Lalala, which features "Señorita Mariposa", or his Latin Grammy award-winning album Los Animales — available to borrow on CD at the Library.

Nature has many stories to tell. Get curious with Metro Vancouver park interpreters and learn how to read animal tracks, follow bird calls and identify other wildlife clues! Discover what these animal signs reveal about the mysterious creatures of Crippen Regional Park.

Ages 5-14 - Child drop-off is encouraged. Any parent or guardian who would like to attend with their child, please include yourself as a guest/attendee in the registration form. Space is limited.

Hold onto your bookmarks, folks! This summer, Leif David will bring the magic of books to life as he hits the road as a performer for the Summer Reading Club at libraries all across the province! Experience the wonder and excitement of a magical performance right in the library!

This 45-minute-long children’s magic show is packed with amazing magic and comedy.

This show is brimming with audience participation, and audience volunteers will join Leif David on stage to help him perform the magic for everyone!

All ages – Parents/guardians choosing to attend with their child must please register themselves as a guest/attendee, along with their child/children, as we have limited space.

TumbleBooks: Read-along eBooks for Kids

TumbleBooks is an online K-6 children’s ebook database, available for free through your browser.

This entertaining site for children presents full colour pages of narrated and animated eBooks for families to read along with together. It’s all controlled by you or your child from a simple interface.

eBooks for middle grades are also available, as well as graphic novels, non-fiction, and titles in other languages.

All Tumblebooks eBooks are instant-access (no wait times or holds), and no logging in is required—just go to TumbleBooks from the Bowen Library website and start reading!

Register in the Library for the 50-Day Reading Challenge!

SRC includes a 50-day reading challenge where kids track their reading for 50 days to win a medal at the end of the summer! Throughout the 50-day challenge, kids can collect stickers for every 7 days of reading and enter draws for prizes.

Teen Summer Reading Bingo

Try the Teen Summer Book Bingo! Books can be hard copies, graphic novels, ebooks, audiobooks and braille. Make a row or fill in the whole card, then bring your finished card to the Library to receive a prize!
