Snow tubing and more at Winter O Welcome!

Get connected on campus with Winter O Welcome! With programming spanning January 10 to 29, this event is meant to help students find community, activities, and resources on campus. There will be information sessions for new students and fun activities —like Big White Tubing or Speed Friending— for anyone at UBCO to join.

We recognize there is uncertainty regarding COVID-19 and campus activity, and want to assure you that Winter O Welcome programming has been created in compliance with provincial health standards. Some events have been shifted online, while others remain in-person with appropriate protocol in place. Any further updates will be reflected in the affected event description.

Rest as Resistance with Tiara Cash, Equitable Mindfulness Practitioner

January is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) at UBCO. This year's theme is "Reclaiming Rage, Nurturing Love". Our first event of SAAM 2022 will be Rest as Resistance on January 11 from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm via Zoom. This event is open to all UBCO students, staff, and faculty who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, or People of Colour.

Come join an hour of rest and rejuvenation as we explore the meaning of doing "nothing". We will be taking time to practice fueling ourselves for stronger solidarity and justice movements.

You can find a full calendar of SAAM 2022 events on the SVPRO website.

ISI Fund student application workshop session

Do you have an idea for advancing UBC's vision and commitment to become a leading university in advancing Indigenous People's human rights? Would this idea benefit from up to $50,000 to make it happen?

UBC students are eligible to apply for the Indigenous Strategic Initiatives (ISI) Fund for projects and initiatives that support the implementation of UBC's 2020 Indigenous Strategic Plan. Eligible projects can align with any of the plan's goals and actions.

Please join us virtually on Thursday, January 13 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm via Zoom for a lunchtime proposal planning session and a chance to win a gift card prize! This is an informal opportunity for students to connect and get some support and guidance with their ISI proposals.

Save the date: the Life Raft Debate is back!

One of UBCO’s most iconic events, the Life Raft Debate, is happening on January 26. In a post-apocalyptic world, professors from different faculties must persuade the audience that their area of expertise is essential to the survival of humankind.

This heated debate is always a hit. Mark your calendar for January 26 and get ready to cheer on your favourite prof!
