Update on Fall Swimming Lessons and Pool Schedule
at Brennan Park Recreation Centre

The District is currently experiencing a shortage of aquatics positions in our Recreation and Culture department, in particular supervisory lifeguards and swimming instructors. These positions are required to meet pool regulation guidelines and to ensure safe operations for the community.

Status of Fall Swimming Lessons:

While we are working hard to fill these positions, swimming lessons will not be initially offered this fall, and the pool will be operating with reduced hours following the pool's annual maintenance on September 25.

Temporary Reduced Pool Hours as of September 25:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday to Friday: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed

Lifeguarding shortages are not a new issue for the District, and continue to be a broader systemic challenge for aquatic operators. We are actively reviewing and implementing strategies and opportunities towards solutions.

We understand the impact this reduction in operating hours has on the community. The reduced schedule has been carefully reviewed to minimize impacts to all users as best as possible (public, lessons and user groups).

As we onboard more staff and build our capacity, we will regularly reassess where we can expand our offerings to increase swimming lesson delivery and operating hours back to normal levels. Ultimately our goal is to ensure safe and sustainable pool operations for the community.

We appreciate your patience during this period of time. Visit squamish.ca/rec for updates
