| February Guest Speaker Cheryl Arkison Become a 5-Star Quilter Back when I started quilting it was practically unheard of for a 23 year old to do so, but there I was. Now, over 20 years later I haven’t stopped. In addition to my own creative work, I love to teach, write books, spread the gospel of improv, and design quilts. When it comes to making, I am happy to make what inspires. I am well known for my use of bold colour and the quiet whispers of low volume fabrics but I will use anything in between as well. Use what you love, make what makes you happy. Just get your butt in the seat and sew! Cheryl Arkison Classes | | 👉 Hey, know someone who would like to attend Cheryl Arkison’s talk at our Feb 19th zoom meeting? Non-members can attend for $10 payable to the VMQG and they’ll receive a zoom link for the meeting. To set it up, just email hello@vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca | 👉 Alicia Merrett, a contemporary textile artist based in the UK, is giving a presentation on Sat. Feb. 24th at 10:30am BC PST via zoom, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Quilters Guild and all are welcome. Visual Music: My Journey as a Quilter will include the origins and development of her quilting life, from playing in fabric with colour, shape and line, through her different series including her best known map series and her new digital work. The SCQG is offering non-members access to this presentation for $15.00. If you’d like to attend, please contact karen@klbhr.ca. DEADLINE to register: Feb. 20th. All registrants will receive the link one or two days prior to the event. Bonus: Everyone who attends will receive instructions on how to construct a ‘small piece map’ project after the event. | Round Robin 2024 We’re starting up another Round Robin quilt project, and we’re going to hit the ground running! How it works You put a starting center square into a numbered bag, and then you don’t see it again until December, when we have the big reveal of every participant’s completed quilt top. Each month you bring the bag to our meeting to be swapped for another, to which you’ll contribute according to the instructions for that month. We ask for your commitment to follow the instructions for the month and bring back the bag at each meeting to be swapped. You could also organize for your bag to be brought in by someone else. Claudia will send the instructions by email and will also post them onto the VMQG Facebook page. If you cannot commit to come to most of the meetings to swap your bag, you could opt to make one by yourself, using the instructions, and still be part of the big reveal at our December meeting. To participate, please fill in this form If you have any questions, please email roundrobin@vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca Round Robin quilt photo courtesy of FelicityQuilts.com | | VMQG Yard-age Sale We’re having a yard sale at our March meeting! Here’s your opportunity to go through your stash of quilt-related items that you no longer want or need, things like fat quarters, usable scraps of fabric, quilt tools (rulers, cutting tools, etc.), notions (thread, needles, pins, bobbins, etc.), quilt books, even orphan blocks could be of use to another member. Please gather your items and organize them into baggies or bundles and price them. If you have lots of usable fabric scraps, please organize them by colour. We suggest pricing items for $1, $2, $5 and $10, depending on the item. Put your items into a box or small bin with your name on it, and bring a box or tin for your sales. We’ll set up tables and anyone who wants to participate can place their boxes/bins on a table. The Yard Sale will take place over our meeting break. We’ll also have our usual free table too. Whatever isn’t taken/sold, we ask that you collect your items after the meeting. | Map Quilt Workshop with amy dame Saturday, March 23, 2024 10am to 5pm Croation Cultural Centre, Room C 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver $65 for members + $45 supply fee paid directly to amy $75 non-members + $45 supply fee paid directly to amy >> bring a friend!
