2024 LANDFILL TIPPING FEES

As of January 2, some tipping fees increased to help cover the continuing costs of operating the landfill and to encourage the diversion of waste to recycling and re-use.

More than 15 materials continue to be accepted for
free recycling at the Landfill Recycling Depot and
Transfer Station. These include cardboard (large
quantities), plastic bags, books, clothing, and white
foam packaging.

Renew your dog licence today and save!

Get your dog’s licence before January 31 to qualify for the discounted rate. All dogs must be registered within 30 days of moving to Squamish and all dogs over eight weeks must be licensed.

To pay online, please use the account number located on your renewal notice. If you have not yet received your notice, please contact Animal Control at 604.815.6866 for your account number.

Christmas tree chipping this weekend

The 4th Squamish Scout Group will once again be holding their annual Christmas tree chipping by donation at the Canadian Tire parking lot on Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7 until 4 p.m.

You can also place your tree in your organics tote by doing the following:

  • Remove all tinsel and decorations
  • Cut off all branches
  • Cut the tree trunk to no longer than 3 feet and no more than 3 inches in diameter

Ensure all pieces easily fit into the tote, allowing the lid to close and lock.

Umo coming soon to Squamish Transit

BC Transit’s new contactless fare payment system, Umo (pronounced “you-mo”), is getting ready to launch in Squamish. Umo allows BC Transit users to pay for their fares with the payment method and fare product that best suits their lifestyle and travel habits. Once launched, riders will have the choice of using the Umo Mobility app or a reloadable Umo card as their payment method.

LATEST INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATES

  • University Reservoirs 2 & 3 - Ongoing construction.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plan Expansion and Improvements – Construction is underway through summer 2025 on a new secondary clarifier and concentric bioreactor.
  • Queens Way Lift Station Manhole – Construction continues to replace the inlet manhole and reline the wet-well. Please follow traffic control measures.
  • Sewer Rehabilitation – This work includes excavated and trenchless-style repairs for both sanitary and storm utilities. There will be traffic and parking disturbances during this work, with signage and traffic flaggers in place.

WorkSafeBC is implementing mandatory training and licensing for asbestos abatement work to help keep workers safe from the danger of asbestos. As of January 1, asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and anyone performing asbestos abatement work must complete mandatory safety training and obtain certificates.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

Requests for a public meeting must be made within the first 21 calendar days of a project’s launch in the Development Review. If a combination of 10 separate website-based, emailed or written requests are received by the District, then the applicant will be required to hold a Public Information Meeting regarding their proposed development.
