Genetic reports Beta casein A2

Beta casein A2 testing is gaining producer interest and marketing and selection of A2A2 sires is also growing. In response to these growing trends, Lactanet now offers its A2 Genotype reports that includes a Herd Summary and Animal Summary that is freely available to Lactanet DHI customers via their MySite account.

Between April 2020 and January 2021, two questionnaires were administered by Lactanet technicians and advisors to all their dairy producers. The first focused on housing and dairy herd management, and the second on calf and heifer management practices. This article highlights some of the data collected during this survey.

On February 2, 2022, Pierre Lampron, president of Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC), announced that DFC will be committing to a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from farm-level dairy production by the year 2050.

Forage and infrared analysis

Mazen Bahadi, PhD, is a spectral data expert at Lactanet. He is currently working on developing a grass-fed cow indicator that could be evaluated in milk samples. Although this service is not available yet, Mazen explains this project in more detail and how it could financially help you.

Lactanet Annual Reports

Each year, at the beginning of March, Lactanet customers receive by mail their Herd Performance Index (HPI) and Annual Herd Management Reports.

These reports summarize herd performance for the previous year and provide regional and national benchmark information – thanks to the data collected during milk recordings.

This annual report card not only reflects how your herd is doing, but how you compare to others. It is the gold standard of herd management performance in our industry. The information is used to:

  • monitor your progress;
  • set yourself goals & identify trends for your business;
  • promote excellence & celebrate accomplishments;
  • notice improvements & share with advisors;
  • get recognized and participate in awards.
