COVID-19 Vaccine Administration by Community Health Care Providers

Primary care providers in Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) are being offered the opportunity to express interest in providing COVID-19 immunizations using mRNA vaccine (Moderna) to their own patient populations and/or members of the community who are eligible to receive vaccine based on the current priorities outlined by the Ministry of Health.

HPEPH has created a checklist that outlines all requirements for primary care settings to receive and administer the COVID-19 vaccine: hpePublicHealth.ca/primary-care-provider-vaccine-readiness-checklist/

While this opportunity to express interest and demonstrate readiness is open to all primary care groups, priority will be given to groups that are best positioned to offer immunizations to specific populations and locations to ensure equitable access to immunizations across HPE.

Primary care groups interested in pursuing this opportunity are encouraged to notify Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) as soon as possible, preferably early next week, by emailing vpdcalendar@hpeph.ca.

  • Community care with lower risk of exposure and serving general population (Campus health, Community diagnostic imaging, Daycare/school nursing, Dietary / nutrition, Independent health facilities (e.g., Opticians/Optometry, Podiatry, Audiology, medical and surgical specialties), Naturopathy / Holistic care, Social work, Sexual health clinics).
  • Non-acute rehabilitation and therapy (Chiropractic, Chronic pain clinics, Kinesiology, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychiatry, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Registered massage therapy / Acupuncture, Other therapy).
  • Public health (all other public health).

Please share this eligibility information as applicable with your staff and other professional networks. Highest* and Very High* Priority health care workers can also continue to book vaccination appointments through QHC.  HPEPH continues to be grateful for the partnership and support of QHC and other community partners throughout the region who are contributing to this once in a lifetime vaccination effort.

*In alignment with the definition of Health Care Worker that has been provided by the province, where a health sector has been named in the priority sector, all workers in that sector are included (e.g., including custodial, security and reception staff). Where a non-health setting has been named, only workers providing a health service or direct patient care are included.
