Safety capsule: The go-around
Without wishing to assume the circumstances that led to the accident at the Quebec City airport on August 1 (we will leave this task to the Transportation Safety Board), we have seen fit to publish this reminder on the go-around maneuver and its dangers.

You are approaching, everything is going well. But are you ready for a go-around?

In this video, the apprentice pilot makes a go-around following a landing that was a little too violent for his liking. Luckily, the conclusion is just crumpled sheet metal and a complete engine overhaul (ouch $$$). The pilot escaped with minor injuries.

What mistake(s) do you think he made?

We invite you to consult a short capsule which, we hope, will help you answer this question and refresh your memory on the procedure to follow.

Buying a plane: what are the tax implications?

Are you thinking about buying an aircraft? In addition to the regulatory requirements required by Transport Canada, you must consider the fiscal impact of such a transaction, ie GST/QST sales taxes.

Bernard Gervais, Vice-President Communications at Aviateurs.Québec recently did some research on the subject. Here is roughly what he concluded after checking with Revenu Québec:

  • Purchase of an aircraft whose owner lives in Canada, but outside Quebec:
    • GST: no GST if the sale is from an individual not registered in the tax files.
    • QST: according to article 17 of the law on QST, must pay 9.975% of the market value of the supply (value entered in the contract, etc.)
  • Purchase of an aircraft whose owner lives in Québec
    • GST: no GST if the sale is from an individual from a non-tax registrant.
    • QST: no QST for the sale of personal property

Here are some references on the laws in force that we recommend:

DO YOU OWN A CESSNA, PIPER, MOONEY TYPE AIRPLANE?
WILL YOUR INSURANCE COVER EXPIRE WITHIN THE NEXT 3 MONTHS?

If you answered YES to these two questions, you owe it to yourself to give us a try, without any obligation on your part.

You don't need to sign a transfer letter and you don't have to give exclusivity to SIERRA.

Fly your drone safely and legally

It is important that all pilots — including drone operators — operate safely in Canadian airspace. You must therefore understand the regulations in force and take all the necessary safety precautions before flying your drone. You must also ask NAV CANADA for permission to fly your drone, or Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), in controlled airspace.
