CHANGE OF STATUS FOR WEARING A MASK IN CHSLD

Considering the evolution of the epidemiological situation, the MSSS and Public Health have agreed that the wearing of a protective mask continuously in living environments, as much for visitors, residents, volunteers and employees, can now be ceased.

Note that certain mask-wearing procedures, depending on the epidemiological situation and specific circumstances in the establishment, may apply as recommended by INSPQ in the following situations:

  • Wearing a universal face mask should be instituted in the event of an outbreak in the long-term care setting.
  • Establishments can make the decision to introduce the universal wearing of masks for prevention depending on local epidemiology and specific circumstances.
  • Wearing respiratory etiquette should be applied during symptoms of acute respiratory infection as a basic measure.
  • When the mask is not mandatory, the individual choice to wear it must be respected.
  • Health establishments are fully responsible for determining the requirements for wearing a mask based on the recommendations of the INSPQ.

In addition, it is important to avoid going to a CHSLD if you have symptoms related to COVID, influenza or gastroenteritis to prevent any spread of the virus among residents.

We are aware that lifting the measure of wearing a mask continuously will be a beneficial element in communication and the relationship with our residents. The lifting of this protective measure must be supported with increased efforts in good hand hygiene practices. This step is essential in preventing the spread of infections. It is therefore important to rigorously respect hand hygiene either:

  • Before entering the resident's room and when leaving
  • After touching a body fluid
  • Before and after feeding the resident
  • After touching a resident or the environment.

It should also be considered that physical distancing, without being mandatory, still remains a good practice to this day.

Thank you for your collaboration and looking forward to seeing your smiles again!
