COMMUNITY REQUESTED TO REFRAIN FROM WATER ACTIVITIES IN THE ESTUARY UNTIL NEXT WEEK

In coordination with provincial regulatory agencies, signage was placed on Tuesday around the Squamish Estuary near water entry points to advise the public to refrain from water activities at this time.

On January 14, Squamish experienced a failure at the Queens Way lift station, part of the municipal sanitary infrastructure, and sewage was unfortunately discharged into the Squamish Estuary as a result. Notices will remain posted until the contamination has had adequate dilution and removal via the tidal current. This natural process is expected to take about seven days.

ZERO WASTE TIP OF THE WEEK

Keep your used books out of the landfill and give them a second life! Books in good condition can be donated to the Hotspot Community Bookstore and Computer Lab, located at the Squamish Welcome Centre at 38027 Cleveland Avenue. The bookstore does not accept mouldy books, textbooks, instruction manuals for appliances, romance novels, cookbooks, travel books older than 5 years, or encyclopedias. Quirky books are always welcome. Just drop by the storefront and a staff member or volunteer will show you where to leave your books.

Donation hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
