Write & Share a Valentine's Haiku

In February, 2022, people of all ages are invited to write Valentine’s Day haiku and submit them at the Bowen Library! We’ll post them in the library for all to read and share some on our social media, website, and newsletter. Short poems also welcome.

Fill in a submission sheet at the library, or print it at home from our website and fill it in, then drop it off at our front desk or through our book drop. You can also submit your haiku/poem via email to info@bowenlibrary.ca.

A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Haiku often use nature imagery and a simple, direct style.

The Seed Library Returns!

Find the Bowen Island Seed Library display once again inside the library during our open hours.

How does it work?

  • Take free seeds
  • Grow plants
  • Let some go to seed, save seeds, and donate seeds back for future gardeners!

We're accepting seed donations now and throughout the growing season as well. If you have saved or store-bought seed to share, bring it to the library, and we'll add them to the Seed Library.

The Seed Library is currently stocked with many seed packets prepared and even decorated by the the Bowen Island Community School Student Garden Club (see photo below of some of the students and their seed packages! Photo by Sarah Haxby).

The Bowen Island Seed Library is made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Bowen Island Public Library and volunteers from Bowen Agricultural Alliance, the Bowen Island Community School Student Garden Club, the Bowen Gardeners Facebook group—and you!

Vaccine Verification Required for Programs Only

We are legally required by current Public Health orders to ask for proof of vaccination from our program attendees aged 12 and up.

There is a Health Order exception for youth programs, so youth attending Teen Advisory Group are not required to show proof of vaccination. For all-ages programs (e.g. our film series), those aged 12 may show proof of one vaccine dose only.

Proof of Vaccination is not required to enter the library and access library services other than programs.

You can always check our Events Calendar and our Library COVID-19 Updates page for further details and the most current health requirements.

If you need help printing your vaccine proof or accessing the digital version, library staff are happy to assist you.

We appreciate our patrons' continued understanding and courtesy towards our staff and each other as we follow public health orders.
