IBioS Bear Safety and Coexistence Project: Update
The IBioS-funded research team has successfully completed data collection at Cultus Lake Provincial Park, wrapping up on Tuesday, July 22nd after beginning on Monday, July 7th. The fieldwork proceeded smoothly, with the team gathering valuable data across multiple campsites.
This successful effort was led by PhD student Sima Khanal, whose hard work, thoughtful leadership, and near single-handed development and implementation of the project were invaluable. A highlight of the trip was the culinary contribution of Prashant Chopra and Zuhair Hussain, who not only fulfilled their research duties but also took on the role of camp chefs, preparing restaurant-quality meals daily.
Wildlife made a brief appearance as well—a bear at Maple Bay on July 19th and a cougar at Clear Creek on July 20th—both narrowly missed by the team, much to their disappointment (and probably for the best).
