September is a time for change. Delicious fruit ripens in the orchards, leaves change colour bringing stunning beauty, and my activity changes from being on the water or indoors to ones that allow me to enjoy the cooler fall temperatures including running, biking, and hiking. Our campus is reinvigorated with energy and excitement as students, staff, and faculty return to campus and an array of emotions can often bubble up. When these strong emotions start to build, I prefer to settle my mind by moving my body in a way that I can connect with nature. The campus trails are a great way to take a break during meetings or classes. For you, the changes brought about by moving into a new home, starting a new program, returning to campus, meeting new friends or trying out a new activity can be exciting but also bring out some strong feelings. No matter what changes are occuring in your life, be sure to take a moment to pause, to assess your own wellbeing, and then find ways to allow yourself to thrive. I strongly encourage you to explore improving your mental health through engaging in physical activity. It is a great way to move your body, rest your mind, and revitalize your spirit. Recreation is ready to support your mind and body with an array of returning and new programs this fall. Be sure to check out Free Fitness Week including a BARK yoga class, workout buddies, cricket, and many more programs and events that will be offered to welcome our community back to campus this month.
