THE HALIFAX ARMDALE REPORT

Celebrating Ramadan

Good day Halifax Armdale and Ramadan Mubarak.

March 10th marked the start of Ramadan and continues until April 9th. In Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Qurโ€™an, and fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of drawing closer to God and cultivating self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. I wish the best to everyone fasting through school and workdays.

The Spring session of the legislature is currently in session so let me hear your thoughts. What are the issues would you like for me to advocate on your behalf? Send me an email or call my office, we want to hear your thoughts!

Sincerely,

Advocating for Halifax Armdale

As Member of the Legislative Assembly for Halifax Armdale, I have been advocating for the safety of Dunbrack Road and the need for a new school in our community on behalf of families at John W. MacLeod Elementary School.

I have raised these issues to the attention of the Premier Houston, and I am optimistic that they will act.

I believe that the speed limit on the old highway in Halifax Armdale, which starts on Dunbrack Road by Long Lake, will be lowered. I am also hopeful that the Premier will recognize the importance of a new school in our community, and I will continue to advocate for it.

Community Spotlight

Discover Flenjor Foods African Grocery

I am excited to introduce you to Flenjor Foods African Grocery, a local gem founded by Olakunle and Oladiwura Fakiyesi. Arriving in Canada from Nigeria in 2016, the Fakiyesi family noticed a gap in the availability of familiar foods from home. Determined to address this need, they opened Flenjor Foods in 2019 at 47 Williams Lake Road.

Since then, Flenjor Foods has become a staple in our community. In March 2021, they expanded their offerings and were inaugurated as a Halifax-based specialty grocery store. Here, you can find a diverse array of African foods in both wholesale and retail quantities. Beyond groceries, they also offer an assortment of beauty products including wigs, weaves, and stunning ready-to-wear African fabrics.

Flenjor Foods serves as a cultural bridge, welcoming shoppers from various backgrounds to experience the rich flavours and vibrant traditions of the African continent.

To explore their products further, we encourage you to visit their website.
