Lisa's principled views about what constitutes genuine patient involvement extended to perspectives from Indigenous communities and mental health clients. Lisa's commitment to true partnership was backed by the hard work to make it so, along with a necessary optimism that progress would indeed follow, eventually. She made a point of rebalancing power whenever she could.
Her efforts welcomed and valued patient insights, as well as eager interest from early career professionals. What mattered most was respect for authentic ideas over the status of the speaker.
Said her friend and fellow patient partner Carolyn Canfield: "We will remember Lisa forever for her quick wit and generosity, her genuine passion for research excellence, and her unwavering commitment to patient partnership that might actually transform institutional research relationships. Our job now is to honour her courage by doing all we can to make her vision for the patient voice a reality."
