SHA CARES - Living our Values

North Stars bring fun to patients

The Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford hosted a visit that gave patients the opportunity to meet their idols and take part in a positive, engaging activity.

The Battlefords North Stars were welcomed on February 4 for a brief tour of the hospital and a floor hockey game with several patients.

Events like this help foster connection and play an important role in reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.

The North Stars were gracious and inclusive in their interactions, promoting physical health, resilience, and teamwork throughout the day. Thank you to the North Stars for spending time with patients and making a meaningful difference in their day.

SHA expands translation services through pictures

Opening card: visual overview of communication cards representing 16 languages.

In October 2025, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) launched a new Picture-Based Communication Tool to better support non-verbal patients, residents, clients, and families across the province.

Developed by SHA’s Patient and Family-Centred Care and Experience Team, the tool uses simple, relatable images to help individuals express their needs, preferences, emotions and concerns when verbal communication is limited.

This first-of-its-kind initiative reflects SHA’s commitment to accessibility, equity, and patient-centred care. As outlined in Our Commitment to Each Other, the tool supports explaining things in understandable ways and ensuring every individual has a voice in their care.

Originally translated into 14 languages — including Cree, Dene and Michif — the success of the initiative has led to the addition of two more languages, bringing the total to 16. By reducing communication barriers and creating a shared visual language, the tool strengthens understanding, builds trust and supports safer, more inclusive care for all.

 Clinical Information

Safety Talk - Pressure Injuries

Pressure injuries are caused by sustained pressure, usually over a bony prominence, that impairs circulation and prevents oxygen and nutrients from reaching the skin. This results in tissuedamage and skin breakdown. Pressure injuries cause pain and discomfort and have a significant negative impact on quality of life.

How does your team contribute to keeping patients healthy and reducing pressure injuries?

Please read the latest Patient Safety Talk and share with your teams.

Transition from Webex to Microsoft Teams

As part of eHealth’s ongoing efforts to streamline communications and improve collaboration across the organization, we are transitioning from Cisco Webex to Microsoft Teams. This change will create a more consistent user experience and better integrate with the tools we use every day. Below is the transition timeline:

Current state:

March 2 – Transition activities begin:

  • Microsoft Teams becomes the recommended platform for chat, meetings, and boardroom meetings
  • Both Webex and Microsoft Teams will remain available

March 30 - Microsoft Teams becomes the standard for all new meetings, and SHA is fully transitioned.

April 20 - Webex is fully decommissioned, and Microsoft Teams becomes the only supported platform.

Your Accountability and Performance Plan (APP) Is more than a form

The Accountability and Performance Plan (APP) is your opportunity to pause and reflect on the most important work you’ve contributed over the past year. Rather than seeing it as a compliance task, think of it as a chance to capture what went well, where you stretched, and what you learned along the way.

At the start of the year, you identified key projects, tasks, development goals, etc. that you most wanted to focus on and achieve. Take a few minutes to reflect on those goals and ask yourself, what are you most proud of? Which goals did you achieve?

Clear, thoughtful reflection helps your supervisor better understand your contributions and sets the stage for a more meaningful year-end conversation.

Employees should complete their portion of the APP by no later than March 31, so that supervisors can focus on year-end review meetings and submissions before the April 30, deadline.

Having trouble with online learning modules?

Spinning wheels, missing buttons, or progress that won't save can be frustrating - but most issues are quick fixes.

This resource walks you through the most common browser-related issues learners experience in MyLearning and how to resolve them in just a few minutes. Whether you're stuck mid-module or want to prevent issues before they happen, this quick resource can save you time and headaches.

Note: These troubleshooting steps will not resolve the intermittent 'Retry Later' error. Technical teams are actively investigating this issue and will share updates as they become available.
