A Quick Hello at the end of Summer

      President's Message

Welcome to (almost) September, and our End-of-Summer newsletter. I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the summer, either travelling or here in beautiful Stratford.

Your Executive Committee has been working hard over these past months, and we will be kicking off a new season in September with an exciting new program and celebrating our 70th birthday!

Our first meeting will be Tuesday September 24th at 7pm at our new location, Stratford District Secondary School. We are meeting in the former Drama Room, which is accessed from the Short Street parking lot. Access is completely barrier-free and there is lots of parking available.

This is our Meet and Greet meeting - we will introduce our program theme and speakers for the year, and have the signups for all of our Interest and Advocacy groups – including some new ones. Please make sure to attend and bring your friends.

You may have noticed that there is a new look and feel to our newsletter. We'll be sharing our new 70th birthday branding and a new website - look for more details in our next newsletter. Also included in the September newsletter will be our Membership Survey. Please contact Bev Symons, our new Newsletter
Coordinator, if you have any other updates to include.

Finally, a huge shout-out to Helene Crabb and Margaret Thompson for the success of their Scholarship fundraising walks - over $5,700 was raised in just a few short weeks! Bravo!

I am very honored to be President on our 70th anniversary and the celebration of our ongoing tradition of Fellowship, Scholarship, and Advocacy in our community, country and internationally. I look forward to see everyone again at the Meet and Greet,

Cambria Ravenhill

Interest Groups

The launching of the year's Interest Groups is always eagerly anticipated. Information on Interest Groups will be in our new website. Interest Group sign-up sheets will be out on the night of our first general meeting on Sept 24th.

Our membership survey will be in the next newsletter and will include your interests and any ideas you might have for this year. In the meantime, please contact Interest Group Convenors, Leora Rissin and Patsy Berton. Ideas anyone?

Advocacy

One of the pillars of our club is the opportunity to participate in issues affecting our community, province, nation and world.

On the strength of last year's initiatives, we will again be going forward with our work on the environment, violence against women, and Indigenous affairs. Contacts and details will be forthcoming in our September newsletter and at our first general meeting.

CFUW National

Are you coming to New York?

Wouldn't this be fun! So cool!

By October, information will be available for CFUW members interested in applying to go to New York as CFUW delegates to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), one of six working commissions of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body that is exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the rights and empowerment of women.

Details and application information will be published in our Stratford October newsletter. If you'd like to be notified as soon as info is available, let Bev Symons know and she'll keep an eye out for any earlier deadlines and advise.
