Council Reviews Water Quality and Long-Term Water Supply Planning
Council received several reports focused on Kimberley's drinking water and watershed health.
Representatives from Aqua-Tex Scientific Consulting presented the 2025 Mark and Matthew Creek Water Quality Report, providing an update on source water conditions and ongoing monitoring efforts within the City's watersheds.
Council also received the 2025 Annual Drinking Water Report, which summarizes drinking water quality monitoring and confirms ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable drinking water to the community.
In addition, Council received the Mark Creek Watershed Supply Assessment, a report examining the long-term sustainability of Kimberley's primary water source. Following discussion, Council directed staff to bring forward a future report outlining how recommendations from the assessment could be incorporated into future asset management, water conservation initiatives, and long-term water supply planning. The goal is to help ensure a resilient and sustainable water supply for future generations.
Funding Approved for Inaugural Stillpoint Festival
Council approved a $2,000 discretionary grant for Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook to support the inaugural Stillpoint Festival, taking place September 17-19, 2026. The festival will celebrate arts, culture, community connection, and environmental awareness, bringing residents and visitors together through a variety of programming and events.
Council Authorizes Attendance at UBCM Convention
Council authorized Councillors Cairns, Fox and Maguire to attend the 2026 Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver this September.
The annual convention brings together local government representatives from across British Columbia to discuss key municipal issues, attend educational sessions, and advocate for community priorities with provincial decision-makers.
Financial and Operational Updates Received
Council received several regular corporate reports covering the first half of 2026, including:
- The Financial Update Report for January 1 to June 30, 2026;
- The Procurement Report for April 1 to June 30, 2026; and
- The Quarterly Administration Update for April 1 to June 30, 2026.
These reports provide accountability and transparency regarding municipal finances, purchasing activities, ongoing projects, and progress toward Council's strategic priorities and operational objectives.
