Seniors Property Tax Rebate Program

Attention Crowsnest Pass Seniors!

We’re excited to offer a property tax rebate tailored for low-income seniors like you! This program aims to shield you from property tax hikes over a generous four-year period.

To qualify, you (and anyone residing in your home) must be receiving the Federal Guaranteed Income Supplement. Ensure your taxes are paid or enrolled in our preauthorized payment plan, and remember, the property needs to be your primary residence. Don’t forget, the Seniors Rebate application is required each year as they don’t carry forward.

🗓️ Mark your calendars! The deadline for applications is December 15 every year. For more details, reach out to our tax clerk at 403-563-2203.

Seniors' Utility Rate Reduction – Time to Renew!

It's that time of year again! If you're part of the Seniors' Rate Reduction Program, remember to renew your application before April 30, to keep your discount.

To continue receiving the reduced rate, simply fill out the application form at this link and submit it along with a copy of last year's T4A (OAS) to the Municipal Office before the deadline.

TRAFFIC FOCUS: WILDLIFE ATTRACTANTS

🛣️ Motorcycle safety

Motorcycles are back on our roads! As the riding season kicks off, we're reminding everyone to look twice and share the road.

Motorcyclists have less protection — a second glance could save a life. Whether you're driving or riding, let's keep each other safe this season.

🚧 **Construction Zones – Drive with Care** 🚧

As we kick off the construction season, let’s all commit to safer roads! Here are essential tips to ensure everyone’s safety:

✅ Stay alert—distractions can be dangerous!

✅ Keep an eye out for signs and follow directions diligently.

✅ Merge early and stick to posted speed limits.

✅ Expect delays—plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

✅ Be ready for workers or equipment entering your lane unexpectedly.

✅ Heed flaggers’ instructions—change lanes only when it’s safe.

Most importantly, let’s be patient; our crews are dedicated to improving our roads for everyone!

Safe driving in construction zones ensures the safety of both workers and drivers.

ENFORCEMENT FOCUS: WILDLIFE ATTRACTANTS

As the warmer weather approaches, so do our furry friends—especially bears! CNP Protective Services will be on the lookout for anything that could attract wildlife, like improperly stored garbage.

🌍 Residents are encouraged to:

🔒 Securely store garbage and only put it out on collection day.

🌿 Keep your yard clear of household waste and other attractants.

🦺 Use wildlife-resistant bins whenever possible.

These simple steps can make a huge difference in keeping both people and wildlife safe.

Friends of Crowsnest Community Library

The Friends would like to thank TC Energy, Pincher Creek Royal Canadian Legion, Pincher Creek Lions Club, Pincher Creek Elks Lodge, Cowley Lions and Coleman Lions Club for their support for the One Book Five Schoos Project.

Families with elementary students in Crowsnest Pass, Lumbreck, and P incher Creek have been reading the same book at home over the past couple of weeks. At school, children have enjoyed and learned from opportunities to discuss and react the story in many ways throughout their day – in math, language arts, phys ed, science and social studies.

This feels like a large book club and is a true example of community literacy development in action.

PEAKS TO PINES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION & CROWSNEST CRUISERS

PEAKS TO PINES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

Thank you Springbreak Flower Farm for inviting our seniors from the Lodge to get their fingers dirty and help with planting more than 900 plugs! A wonderful day was had by all! Also very much appreciated was the donation of flowers that will fill the courtyard planters at the Lodge!

We are a registered charity and issue tax receipts for donations of $25 or more. Name plates are mounted on a Wall of Thanks in the lobby of Peaks to Pines Seniors Lodge for donations of $100 or more. Logos of donors may be placed on the Crowsnest Cruisers van for donations of $5,000 or more to that service. Donors are also recognized on social media. We accept donations by cheque, cash, or e-transfer to peakstopinesresidents@gmail.com. Please check out our website at www.p2pra.ca. It includes information about our fundraising efforts, volunteer opportunities, an ‘In Memory’ page, list of donors, and much more!

CROWSNEST CRUISERS

The Cruisers provides assisted transportation for older adults (50+) and persons with mobility challenges locally throughout the Crowsnest Pass and out-of-town to Pincher Creek, Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, and Calgary. Call Marie @ 403.583.5598 to book your ride.

Local hours of service are:

Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 8:30am – 3:00pm

Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Rider fees are:

Local trips $10 one-way, with $1 for each additional stop. Stamp cards for local trips are available for $25 from the driver or at the General Store at the Peaks to Pines Seniors Lodge…a great gift idea!

Out-of-town return trips: Pincher Creek $35; Fort Macleod $75; Lethbridge $100; and Calgary $200. Subsidies are available for individuals who qualify. If possible, please try to arrange appointments in Pincher Creek on the second Tuesday of the month and in Lethbridge on the third Thursday of the month. Your help with this is appreciated!

We welcome Tracey Linderman, the newest member of our volunteer driver team! The out-of-town rides have doubled over the past few months, so we are in need of volunteer drivers. If you have a Class 1, 2, or 4 driver's license (or are willing to obtain one) and are able to help us once or twice a month, we’d love to hear from you! Honorariums are offered to volunteer drivers. Call Darcy at 403.583.5587 for more information.

You will find more information about the Cruisers on our website at www.crowsnestcruisers.com.
