Launching the New Guide to
Authentic Patient Engagement!

Interested in learning more about meaningful and authentic engagement of patients, family members and caregivers in health care improvement? We've refreshed our patient engagement guide to include new resources and sections on diversity, equity and inclusion, Indigenous cultural safety and humility, what’s important to know when working together and the six steps to engagement. The guide is also now interactive and easier to navigate.

New Quality Standard for Improving Stroke Care

The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council, which administers our network, recently released a new quality standard for BC’s health system that focuses on improving stroke care.

The new Stroke Quality Standard and Patient, Caregiver and Family Guide supports:

  • People with stroke to understand key aspects on high-quality stroke care, and to make informed decisions in partnership with their health care teams;
  • Health care professionals to make decisions about appropriate care; and
  • Health care organizations to examine their systems and policies and improve the services they provide.

Patient Voices Network patient partners helped develop the new standard. As no two patient journeys are the same, different engagement strategies were employed throughout the project to capture diverse perspectives.

The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council Wins
Core Values Award for Indigenous Engagement!

The International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) has recognized the engagement process to create our resource, Culturally Safe Engagement: What Matters to Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) Patient Partners, at their 2022 Core Values Awards.

This resource was created from the voices of Indigenous patient partners, and we are grateful to them for sharing their knowledge in the pursuit of culturally safe patient engagement.

September 30 is the National Day for
Truth and Reconciliation

This year marks the 2nd National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. We are observing September 30 by closing our offices and encouraging our staff to spend the time engaging with learning opportunities and events that honour residential school survivors, their families and communities.

The Residential Schools Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day for anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of the ongoing impacts of the residential school system – call 1-866-925-4419. To find supports for residential school survivors, their families and communities, visit the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
