November 2023

Mayor's Message

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

On behalf of King Township Council, welcome to the November edition of the King Bulletin.

It’s hard to believe we’re quickly approaching the holiday season. I’m excited to say there are several fantastic events coming up, including the always popular Main Street Christmas in Schomberg on Saturday, Dec. 2. The event is presented by the Schomberg Village Association, a non-profit organization.

There will be street performers, carollers, children's entertainers, fireside readings, children's crafts, holiday creations, an art and craft show and, of course, Santa Claus.

The event starts with the exciting Santa's Parade at 4 p.m. where local businesses and community groups in their creative floats march alongside several bands playing rousing tunes.

Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. you are invited to wander up and down Main Street to enjoy the sights and sounds of a bygone era with carollers singing and music playing, enjoying food and the Christmas Market in the newly refurbished Schomberg Community Hall.

The evening is brought to a spectacular close with the Farmers' Parade of Lights, where farm equipment is driven down Main Street by the local farming community.

That great event will be followed the next day on Sunday, Dec. 3 with the Nobleton Tree Lighting festivities.

Enjoy local food and sing carols at the Nobleton Gazebo at 8 Sheardown Drive from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

If you’re looking to get into the festive spirit even earlier, be sure to drop by the annual One of a King Handmade Holiday Market with Trees & Treats at the King Township Heritage and Cultural Centre on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The family-friendly event and market runs from 3 – 7 p.m. and will feature local vendors, photos with Santa, Trees of Giving, crafts, a tree lighting and much more.

This event takes place both indoors and outdoors and admission is free.

Please continue to volunteer, shop locally as much as you can and visit king.ca for the latest news on all things King.

Sincerely,

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

Have your say on the future of Nobleton Community Hall!

Changes are coming to the Nobleton Core as part of the Nobleton Community Park Revitalization Strategy. Part of those changes require a decision on the future of the aging Nobleton Community Hall/Nobleton Women’s Institute. At this time, we are inviting citizens to provide their input on whether to relocate or demolish and commemorate the facility.

King residents: choose your preferred option by taking an online survey before Friday, Nov. 17 at our online engagement platform SpeaKING.

Water billing information

Water bills due on Nov. 15

Water bills for the third quarter (July to September) have been issued. Payment is due on Nov. 15 and can be made online at king.ca/onlineservices.

Keep in mind, this is usually the highest consumption quarterly given the use of sprinklers and pools during the summer months.

Property owners can request to have their payment split over three months with no interest by notifying King’s Finance department in advance of the due date by contacting treasury@king.ca

You can also sign-up for the Pre-Authorized Debit Program (PAD) where payments are automatically withdrawn on the scheduled water due dates each quarter.

For details, visit king.ca/waterbilling

Winter parking restrictions

Winter parking restrictions are now in effect until April 15. This means that on-street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and on-street parking that interferes with snow removal or parking on the sidewalk at any time are prohibited. These restrictions ensure that our roads and sidewalks can be cleared and allow vehicles and pedestrians to safely pass following a snowfall.

King’s winter parking restrictions, which prohibit on-street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. to allow for winter road maintenance, will be in effect from November 1 to April 15. For more information, visit king.ca/snowremoval.

Christmas in King spreading cheer

Want to help spread Christmas cheer?

Christmas in King (CiK) is run entirely by volunteers with a mandate to offer everyone in King Township a happy holiday season. They know that many people manage without support for 11 months of the year, but December can tip the scales severely. You do not need to be registered with the King Township Food Bank (KTFB) to receive CiK benefits.

CiK is a separate organization, but relies on the support of KTFB; the two organizations partner to share holiday cheer.

Please consider purchasing and donating a requested item on the wish list for one of over 100 children in King. Festive Hamper adoptions are also available. Email christmasinking@gmail.ca or text Carol Ann at 416-559-7898. For more information, visit christmasinking.ca.
