Update on the situation at CHSLD Heather

As you know, COVID outbreak has occurred in our CHSLD in Unit 3 on December 4th, 2023.

Respondents of positive residents have been notified. Our infection prevention and control team works in collaboration with the CHSLD team. Measures have been put in place and are being applied. The residents have been screened and we are awaiting the results. Close monitoring is being done on units that currently have no cases. All of our teams are working together to prevent the spread. Our measures in place are reviewed and adjusted daily to ensure everyone's safety. Our employees have been reminded of the measures to be taken. We continue to rigorously monitor symptoms in residents and staff.

Affected residents are in COVID droplet-contact isolation + eye protection.

For all workers as well as caregivers and visitors, wearing PPE (gown, gloves, N95 mask and eye protection) is mandatory in isolation rooms. Wearing a procedure mask (blue) is mandatory throughout the establishment.

Christmas Lunch for residents of the Unit 3 and their families is pospoted to January 9th. Activities may be canceled or postponed depending on the severity of the outbreak. You will be notified as quickly as possible.

In our concern to inform families of the evolution of the situation in our establishment, here is the state of the situation of this day:

  • 2 active cases among our residents
  • 2 recovered residents
  • 1 death
  • 1 active case among our employee
  • 2 recovered employees

MESURES TO RESPECT ON OUTBREAK UNITS ONLY

  • Make sure you have NO flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms before visiting a loved one,
  • Rigorously respect basic health instructions in the living environment,
  • In the rooms of a positive resident, wear PPE (gown, N95 mask, gloves and eye protection) and respect physical distancing of 1 meter,
  • Elsewhere in the CHSLD and in the rooms of residents who have not tested positive, wear the procedure mask (blue) and keep a distance of 1 meter between people or follow any additional directives issued by the unit.

Do not bring any coats, bags or personal items onto the units or into a resident's room. Please leave your bags in your car and your coat in the locker room before entering.

Access to common areas, for example the dining room and the living room, is prohibited for people visiting a loved one in isolation. The latter can only have access to the resident's room.

It remains important to ensure rigorous application of infection prevention and control measures in order to limit spreading the virus.

Residents who test positive are in isolation in their rooms. Deconditioning prevention activities are in place for them. Exit from the environment is not permitted for the COVID-19 positive person. Other measures could be added depending on the situation on the different units.

No restrictive measures apply to residents who are not in isolation and they continue their usual daily activities.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO BE RESPECTED AT ALL TIMES FOR ALL VISITORS

We ask that you continue to complete the visitor log so that we can communicate with you in the event of an outbreak during your visits. Make sure you have NO flu-like or gastro-like symptoms before visiting your loved one.

Wearing a mask remains mandatory throughout the establishment until further notice. Hand hygiene must be practiced in all situations and places: among others, upon arrival, before and after visiting a resident, before and after an activity, before and after eating or drinking, after going to the toilet, when leaving, and after wearing gloves if necessary, to name a few times. Respiratory etiquette must also be practiced.

VERY IMPORTANT

If you ever develop symptoms, are positive for COVID or develop flu-like or gastro-like symptoms up to 48 hours after a visit to a CHSLD, please immediately notify the head of the CHSLD unit.

We thank you for respecting the basic infection prevention measures and those in force in the outbreak units. Our residents are at risk and so are our employees. It is together, by respecting the measures, that we can help reduce the risks of spread.

As the situation may change, the measures may also change without notice, so you should ensure you follow those indicated in the center during your visit.
