Culture & Events have three available grants: Culture Operating Grant, Culture Project Grant and Downtown Event Revitalization Fund. Available grants include: Deadline for Applications: October 6, 2026 | 2027 Street Banners - Call to Youth The City of Nanaimo is seeking art from youth (ages 19 years and under) for its 2027 Street Banners. This program offers artists an opportunity to submit proposals for original banner artwork that will be hung in Nanaimo’s downtown area. Banners will be put on display in spring 2027, in the Arts District downtown, along Bowen Road, Third Street and other major routes, creating a vibrant visual presence. The selected youth artist will receive an honorarium of $2,500 for their banner design. Fabrication and installation costs are covered by the City and are not included in this fee. Detours are in place.
- Storm sewer and watermain upgrades on Kenworth Road, and at the intersection of Shenton Road will require single-lane alternating traffic on both roads Mondays through Thursdays between 7 am and 6 pm.
- Single lane alternating traffic along Hammond Bay Rd (westbound lane) between Brickyard Rd and McGirr Rd to install power to the sanitary sewer monitoring station and paint road markings. The existing traffic signals at Hammond Bay Rd and Turner Rd intersection will operate as normal.
- Single lane alternating traffic along Turner Rd from Hammond Bay Rd to Kenning Pl while crews work on painting road markings. Traffic signals at Hammond Bay Rd and Turner Rd intersection will operate as normal
- Single lane alternating traffic along Hammond Bay Rd (eastbound and westbound lanes) at Rutherford Rd to paint road markings. The existing traffic signals at Hammond Bay Rd and Rutherford Rd intersection will operate as normal.
