| Public Service Announcements and News Releases | Saskatchewan recognizes National Nursing Week | Saskatchewan is recognizing and expressing its gratitude for the high-quality, live-saving work of nurses in the province during National Nursing Week, May 11 to 17. | Construction begins at Royal University Hospital ICU bed expansion | The Government of Saskatchewan is investing over $17 million in capital funding for 2026-27 to expand adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity at Royal University Hospital (RUH) in Saskatoon. This project will increase the number of ICU beds from 19 to 26, building on the province's ongoing commitment to strengthen critical care services. | Recognition and Appreciation | Celebrating National Nursing Week 2026 | National Nursing Week is May 11 - 17, 2026 | A message from Gaylene Molnar, Executive Director, Clinical Standards Nursing Professional Practice and Education and Chief Nursing Officer As we celebrate National Nursing Week, I want to take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude and admiration for each and every registered nurse, registered psychiatric nurse, nurse practitioner, and licensed practical nurse who works in the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). You are the heart of our health system. You bring skill, compassion, and resilience to every shift, every patient interaction, and every challenge. Whether you are at the bedside, in the community, in long-term care, in leadership, or in education and research, your contributions are essential to the strength and sustainability of health care across our province. The Canadian Nursing Association’s theme for this week is “The Power of Nurses to Transform Health Care.” This theme puts emphasis on your expertise and leadership to improve health-care systems and patient care. As we celebrate your contributions, we also recommit to supporting you with the tools, resources, and working environments you need to thrive—both personally and professionally. Opportunities such as Critical Care Nursing to support Intensive Care Units across our province, Perioperative Nursing programs and emergency room opportunities are available for you to advance your career and grow your nursing skills – supported every step of the way. National Nursing Week is a time to honour your vital role in health care, but my appreciation extends far beyond this week. Thank you for your leadership, your strength, and your unwavering commitment to caring for the people of Saskatchewan. | National Nursing Week upcoming events | Join us in celebrating our incredible nurses with events all week long. | Vintage-style nursing portraits created in Kindersley | The Kindersley and District Health Centre Acute Care Unit has a unique display up this week. Assistant Head Nurse Jill-Ann Snider creatively transformed individual photos of each team member into vintage-style nursing portraits, placing them in historical battlefield hospitals, early care centers, and old-fashioned nursing settings. Each image was thoughtfully designed to reflect the unique personality and character of the nurse it represents. This was done as a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the team, recognize the history of nursing, and highlight the individuality and dedication each nurse brings to patient care every day. | Members of the Kindersley and District Health Centre Acute Care Unit team with the vintage-style nursing portraits created using their own images. | Nursing resources for culturally sensitive care | For National Nursing Week, SHA Clinical Library celebrates the transformative impact of nurses by spotlighting two resources that support culturally sensitive care. Dynamic Health and Nursing and Allied Health Reference Source (NAHRS) offer specialized content to help nurses provide inclusive, patient-centred care for diverse faith and heritage groups. These tools offer practical guidance on how cultural beliefs can influence communication styles, decision-making, clinical considerations, specific health beliefs, and specialized care. For more nursing resources, explore the Library’s Nursing Guide. | Neonatal/Infant Universal SAFE Falls and Entanglement, Strangulation and Entrapment Precautions | The Universal SAFE Falls Precautions for Every Patient poster was not meeting the unique needs of our neonatal and infant populations. Therefore, the Neonatal and Infant Universal SAFE Falls and Entanglement, Strangulation and Entrapment Precautions poster has been created to ensure the safety of these patients.
