ELECTRONIC TRANSIT FARE SYSTEM COMING TO SQUAMISH TRANSIT

A new electronic fare collection system that provides increased flexibility and convenience to transit users is coming to Squamish. The new “Umo” system will allow riders to pay for fares with a variety of payment methods. Initially, riders will be able to pay by mobile app or new reloadable smart card; in the future, payments by personal credit/debit cards and mobile wallets will be enabled. Smart cards will be reloadable either in person at a vendor location or online. Cash will continue to be supported aboard the bus for those riders who prefer to use it. While the new system will introduce new payment options to match riders’ travel habits and lifestyle, the price of passes and individual rides will remain the same.

Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road intersection improvements update

Construction on a long-planned project to increase safety and improve traffic flow at this intersection is currently underway and will continue through June. Please anticipate the following impacts during construction:

  • Tantalus Road South will have a permanent traffic pattern change to a one-way southbound;
  • There will be no parking on Tantalus Road (east side, north of Garibaldi Way) to facilitate the bike lane extension toward the intersection;
  • Southeast access to the 7-11 at Garibaldi Way will be permanently closed; and
  • Please expect vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian impacts while construction is underway.

Regular construction noise should be expected between the working hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Work is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete.
