LESS THAN 72 HOURS TO WATCH THE WEBCAST OF «I MUSICI AND THE VIOLONS DU ROY»
— Conducted by Jean-François Rivest

For this third meeting between I Musici and the Violons du Roy, conductor Jean-François Rivest wanted to interpret a precise repertoire, centered around strings. “I immediately thought of Arnold Schoenberg’s The Transfigured Night, which starts with a very nice big string ensemble.”

This meeting thus makes it possible to have «a particular sound, enriched by a large continuo with two harpsichords, an organ, two theorbes and lute». So the sound and the exchange between the concertino of three or four musicians and the large ensemble will be very special.”

- Christophe Huss, Le Devoir

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS

— How did it unfold?

The auditions took place over two days. Following a draw, the candidates were assigned a number and kept it throughout the day.

It is behind a screen that all the candidates demonstrated their passion for classical music, playing 4 excerpts (about 12 minutes). Following a vote by our orchestra members, half of the candidates were selected to advance to the next round.

The final test was simply to see how the candidates interacted musically with the other musicians of the orchestra, one string quartet at a time. The subtle human and musical interactions (which occur at the speed of light) between the members of a quartet would be impossible to judge with a curtain.

After several hours of process of great fairness, with a very human functioning and done in joy and respect, we added 3 new members to our set!
