FINAL RESULTS OF THE 2022 SQUAMISH GENERAL ELECTION RELEASED | Squamish voters elected six Council members and one Mayor. A total of 6,718 ballots were cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 39.73%, once all new registrations were factored in. The total number of registered Eligible Electors in 2022 was 16,910. The new Council will be sworn in at their Inaugural Meeting on November 1, 2022. Learn more | | UPCOMING COUNCIL MEETINGS | NOTICED ANY NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD NOOKS? | Installation of Neighbourhood Nooks began in September and many of these structures are now in place. Installation of signage and picnic tables in each of the structures is underway and will continue over the coming weeks. The Neighbourhood Nooks located at Garibaldi Shopping Mall, Smoke Bluffs Park, and one of the two nooks planned for Junction Park will each have accessible picnic tables and ramps installed. Due to a backlog from the supplier, installation of accessible tables will likely be delayed until January or February 2023. Learn more | | SQUAMISH'S EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM PUT TO THE TEST | This week, the District of Squamish once again joined residents across the province to ‘Drop, Cover and Hold On’ during B.C.’s largest earthquake drill on Thursday, October 20. More than 520,000 British Columbians participated in the annual exercise aimed at raising awareness about how to prepare to survive and recover quickly from major earthquakes wherever you live, work or travel. As part of the excercise, Squamish issued a test of the SquamishAlert emergency notification system to all SUBSCRIBED residents. A total of 6,833 notifications were sent which included: - 1,800 SMS messages;
- 3,311 emails; and
- 1,068 phone calls.

Learn more | | Infrastructure Upgrades and Impacts: | Mamquam Road Sewer Upgrades Traffic impacts are expected to change several times over the next few weeks as work on the second phase of the Mamquam Road Upgrades gets underway. Construction crews will be installing a sewer bypass line that will be used to move live sewer flows while the existing sewer line is being upgraded over the following six weeks. Residents are advised to expect lane closures on Mamquam Road as well as Highway 99 ramp closures over the course of construction. Some of these changes will affect transit routes. Please plan ahead and provide yourself with extra travel time. Please drive with caution through this area and obey all traffic control signs and staff.
