Welcome to the Town’s new Economic Development e-Newsletter! The Business Beat is your monthly update from Okotoks Economic Development with updates from the Town, the community and beyond! You are receiving this email because you had previously subscribed to receive newsletters from the Town.

Why do I need a business license?

It’s a common question we receive in Economic Development. The simplest response is to point to the bylaw that requires it. But there is much more to purchasing a business license in Okotoks. Holding an up-to-date business license helps validate your business to customers, providing assurance that you have received all of the necessary permits, inspections and approvals required to be open for business; creating a sense of credibility and accountability.

The business license data collected through business licenses helps the Economic Development office gauge the health of the business community. Business license data alerts us on new businesses openings, while also signaling businesses that have decided to close. This helps inform and guide our efforts to attract new business or develop and implement programs for additional support to existing businesses. To this end, fees collected from business licensing are used to further economic development initiatives that support the local business community.

Finally, there is an added benefit to holding a business license in Okotoks: your business is included in our online business directory. This directory is an online, searchable tool where anyone can find your business! Click for the Okotoks Business Directory
