In this month’s newsletter, we’re highlighting an important employment update: Canada’s federal minimum wage has increased to $18.15 per hour, effective April 1, 2026. Along with this news, we’re sharing insights on seasonal hiring trends, growing sectors, and practical tips to help you navigate your job search with confidence this spring.

Meet the Employer: The Brick - Info Session | April 7, 2026

This in-person session is a great opportunity for clients interested in retail to connect directly with the employer, learn more about the company, and explore current job openings. Attendees will also gain insight into the hiring process and have the chance to ask questions.

Skills Training Information Session | April 13, 2026

Interested in learning more about WorkBC sponsored training options? This is your chance to learn from our in-house expert Candace Lee, who will discuss what it looks like to access training through WorkBC and share her experience on how it works. A few points during the presentation include details of filling out the application package, the importance of the application, and its components.

Essential Work Skills for Newcomers Program

This free 4-week online program supports newcomers to gain knowledge and skills to succeed in the Canadian workforce.

Program Dates & Times
- April 20 – May 15, 2026. Registration Deadline: April 17 at 12 noon.
- Workshops are delivered online on Zoom for 2-3 hours, 3 days/week.
- Self-paced study for 3 hours, 2 days/week
- You will receive a $100 gift card and a Certificate of Completion when you finish the program.

Training Programs

NPower Canada - Network Security Professional Program

This Program designed for individuals with existing IT or cybersecurity experience who are ready to advance their careers. Participants will work toward the Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) - Professional Level certification, a globally recognized credential that opens doors to high-growth cybersecurity roles. What Participants Will Learn: Security Monitoring, Incident Response, SOC Management, Security Technologies, Security Policies & Procedures.

NPower Canada - Junior IT Analyst Program

Ready to kickstart your Tech Career? This program is your first step towards a rewarding tech-enabled job. This course equips participants with marketable skills for tech-enabled jobs. Participants don’t need any prior knowledge of IT, but basic computer skills (Internet, email) are mandatory. The JITA program is for job-seekers who enjoy solving problems, learning new tools, and helping others.

YWCA Higher Ground

YWCA Higher Ground is a free program for self-identified women who want to explore opportunities in the skilled trades. Explore skilled trade careers and build a personalized pathway while connecting with employers, unions, and post-secondary institutions. Gain hands-on exposure through site visits, mentorship, and apprenticeship opportunities, supported by one-to-one career coaching and skill-building workshops. They accept participants on an ongoing basis.

Medical Administrative Assistants Training for Immigrants | PBLMT

This is a 21-week full-time training program designed to prepare participants for careers as Medical Administrative Assistants. It includes essential and employability skills training, followed by in-depth occupational training, hands-on work experience with local employers, and post-program support to help participants successfully transition into employment. For more information, please contact Mariana at programs@latincouver.ca or 604-566-0999.

Program Start Date: April 27, 2026.

 

Building up - A Construction Training Project | PBLMT

This program offers three intakes, each supporting 12 to 15 participants in a full-time, group-based training experience. Participants will complete essential skills and certifications, followed by occupational training and hands-on work experience with local employers. The program concludes with follow-up support to help participants transition into employment as carpenter helpers, traffic control persons, or skilled trades workers in the Lower Mainland. For more information, please contact the Embers Training Team at training@emberscanada.org or 236-885-1731.
