En-tête Aéro Montréal

Aéro Montréal's mission is to mobilize stakeholders in Quebec's aerospace ecosystem to support its global reach, innovation capacity and growth.

Message from The President

Guillemets

Dear members, dear partners,

I am pleased to announce that on Monday, January 23, we launched a new phase of our major communications campaign to promote the attraction and retention of workers in Québec’s aerospace sector.

This campaign is the result of the mobilization of more than 50 organizations in the cluster. Along with Aéro Montréal, these entities have joined forces to promote the sector’s training and employment opportunities. Launched last September during International Aerospace Week, this initiative aims to address the current labour shortage in the sector.

Over the coming weeks, you will discover portraits of workers in the sector, produced in collaboration with Urbania. You will also find a special feature on future careers in La Presse + and Curium magazine. We will use the data collected during the first phase of the campaign to propose targeted digital advertising. We will leverage various tools such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook or applications that generate a lot of traffic such as Météo média. We will also continue our work with 3 influencers on Tik Tok and Instagram. All with the aim of encouraging our next generation to join areofuture!

This is just a small preview of what you’ll be seeing in the coming weeks, but please stay tuned! I also encourage you to take advantage of the customizable kit we are making available to any organization that wants it. This kit is designed to help you with your recruitment efforts. It will allow you to customize and distribute the campaign messages and visuals to your networks and is available for download below.

Please join us in this collective effort because effective talent recruitment must remain at the heart of the aerospace industry we envision for tomorrow!

Étude Politique des retombées industrielles et technologiques

Study on Investment Attraction Incentives in Defence and Security in Canada

Aéro Montréal conducted a study on the Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) and published a report making a series of recommendations to improve the policy;

This study report represents a pan-Canadian consensus as it was endorsed by AIAC and IPAC (Industrial Participation Association of Canada);

The study makes the following 5 recommendations:

  1. Encourage D&S companies to invest in innovation in Canada’s strategic industry sectors that will provide long term benefits to the Canadian economy through internal R&D.
  2. Implement a system allowing better follow ups regarding company obligations that is visible to all the stakeholders.
  3. The admin requirements of the ITBs are heavy and cumbersome requiring companies to incur costs and delays that add risks and often stop companies from participating in the government procurement process. It should be improved to continue attract foreign investments.
  4. The multiple government departments involved in major procurement should better align their, sometimes, competing objectives. It is recommended that careful consideration be given to the idea of creating a single federal entity responsible for procurement.
  5. Canada should consider developing and implementing a National Industrial Strategy on Defence and Security.

Aéro Montréal, IPAC and AIAC propose to form a working group with federal government authorities to further define improvements that could be made to ITB policy.

UK Government Aerospace in Montreal

March 20th - 23rd

Key areas of interest:

// High Value Manufacturing // Innovation // Factories of the Future // Sustainability // Competitive Manufacturing and Cost Products

Canada is one of the UK's closet allies and one of the largest trading partners. Before the pandemic, trade was substantially higher between our two nations - which DIT aim to address. A 4-day mission to Montreal, visiting key stakeholders, will be conduit for increased trading and investment opportunities.

The recognised and required global shift to sustainable aviation cannot happen without international partnership. Canada and the UK are at the forefront of sustainable flight innovation with key links to High Value Manufacturing, skills and factories of the future. The UK is the second largest aerospace market in the world and provides world leading technology in aerodynamics, propulsion, aero structures and advanced systems.

The Department for International Trade acts as an arm to an organisations’ procurement and supply chain teams. At no cost to the company, DIT helps identify innovative UK suppliers that strategically fit into the organisation’s supply chain to increase commercialisation and competitiveness. This formula has been successfully demonstrated with large aerospace organisations such as, Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems, Pratt & Whitney, GE Aviation and Bombardier.

CRIAQ

$ 38 Million investissement

in Aerospace Research and Innovation in Quebec Montrealen recherche et innovation en aérospatiale au Québec

Last January 25, the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace of Quebec - CRIAQ announced - 6 new collaborative research and development projects, for a total of 17 projects approved and funded by the industry and the Quebec government to advance aerospace technology innovations in Quebec in direct response to market demand. These 6 new collaborative research and innovation partnerships bring together 7 national and international private companies, in addition to 5 academic research centres pooling their expertise to create new solutions. Since the Quebec government launched the Quebec Aerospace Strategy Horizon 2026 last February, CRIAQ has set up 17 research partnerships involving a total of 24 companies and 12 research centres for a total value of $38 million. Of this total investment, $15 million comes directly from public funds announced by the Quebec Government, MEIE in April 2022. In addition to these public funds, there are budgetary envelopes from Mitacs and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). One of the major strengths of CRIAQ's R&D investment model is the leverage effect that public funds generate by necessarily adding private sector investments. In the creation of these collaborative research partnerships, the companies that are part of them must invest, which brings the total amount of investment to two, and sometimes, even three times that amount.
